Dear Sir/Madam, I am a student at the University of Kent (Gillingham, Medway) currently studying a masters in sports rehabilitation. At the present moment, I am proposing a study on the effects of soy milk and semi skimmed milk in the recovery period after exercise on trained male cyclists by looking at the time to exhaustion. I was wondering if any of your cyclists at your clubs would be interested in taking part in my study? It will require them to come to the laboratory at least 3 times at the University of Kent; the first time will require particpants to do a VO2 max test on a cycle ergometer, the second time will require the participants to undergo a glycogen depletion trial followed by a 4 hour recovery phase where the participants will ingest either soy milk and semi skimmed milk ending on an endurance trial at 70% intensity, the third time will be the same as the second time but will ingest a different drink. I have also attached a participant information sheet for more insight into how the study will be carried out.
It would greatly appreciated if you could let me know as soon as possible if anybody would be interested in taking part. Below are my other contacts details: Email: sr262@kent.ac.uk Tel: 07849333090 Kind Regards, Miss Shim Ravalia

I took part in this study and completed the last of the tests this week. It was a good opportunity to have a proper VO2 max test in laboratory conditions and to compare your own results with that of other trained cyclists. The following week I underwent a glycogen depletion trial carried out to exhaustion-this was very revealing in regards to my power levels and physical attributes. Using the information gleaned from this test I have identified the areas of training I need to focus on and given my training more direction. If you own a power meter this data will be very useful in setting your training parameters with real accuracy. The university has very good facilities and is about 60 mins train journey to Gillingham from Beckenham Junction. Shim is still looking for participants to take part in this study and hopes to begin testing with new subjects within the next 10 days. The findings of the study will be published in August this year. If you would like to learn more about your fitness attributes and are able to take part, or would like to find out more; please contact Miss Shim Ravalia on the details below: sr262@kent.ac.ukTel: 07849333090 Regards, Jai.
