TWO WEEKS TO THE THIRD ANNUAL DULWICH FOOTPATH HILLCLIMB. On Saturday July 23rd at 2pm we'll be going contre la montre up the Dulwich Footpath from College Road to the Dulwich Wood House pub. It's a 0.5km ramp that kicks up to 18% but it's short, well-surfaced and traffic-free . Afterwards, we'll repair to a reserved area in the pub garden for hop-based recovery fluids and the prize giving. Prizes this year inc: Lezyne Zecto Drive light sets, Lezyne alloy drive CO2 inflator, packs of Muc-Off ceramic lube, "To Hell On A Bike": a signed edition by local author Iain MacGregor, keyrings… and LOTS more. Categories include: Fastest Man Fastest Woman Fastest Junior (U-18) Fastest Vet (40+) Fastest SuperVet (50+) Fastest SuperDuperVet (60+) PLUS all the old favourites: Wackiest Bike, Silliest Costume, Lanterne Rouge, The Russ Hogge Doomed Heroism Award... etc etc... It's a fun, social event with a little brief pain on the side - and not to be confused with the official October club hill-climb (which of course is terribly serious…) Friends, guests and family are welcome to come along and cheer, and join the party in the pub afterwards. Entry fee is a modest one-off £5 to cover CTT levies & insurance (and entitles you to enter as many categories as you like) and as in the past any extra will go to Athol House, Leonard Cheshire home on College Road. Sign-up here NOW! www.riderhq.com/events/69953/3rd-annual-dulwich-footpath-hill-climb-2016

It's only happened twice and it's already one of the summer events I most look forward to, in all seriousness - a really excellent afternoon and the current forecast looks good.

I'm going to be away next week and coming home Saturday, not sure what time though. If I do get home in time, can I just turn up with a fiver and ride?

Absolutely - same goes for everyone, EoL for a fiver.
And currently the WOMEN's prize of a very nice set of Lezyne Zecto lights (rrp £55) will be contested by just TWO people. Come on, ladies… it's just a bit of fun.

I loved this event last year but there is a tricky conflict with the London Women's Racing League - haven't decided which to attend yet!

Just giving this a little bump as its getting closer!
And just to add again how much of a social event this really is! Do come along for a little or a lot of the time to cheer/ to join us in the pub afterwards. It's a great chance to meet other club members who you might normally not get a chance to see.
Bring your cheering voice, some cowbells if you have then and your pocket money for liquid refreshment.
See you there (I am trying to decide what I should enter into the best/ fancy dress category...)

Another brilliant, sunny afternoon for the Dulwich Footpath Hillclimb, 3rd Edition. The sun shone, the riders groaned and the spectators, well, spectated. Slightly down on numbers from last year (although there were plenty of potential contenders in the pub at the top… hmmm) it was nevertheless eagerly contested, with the Fastest Male time spread over just a few fractions of a second - Mark Jones prevailing. The women's field was small, but our winner - Dalila Lecky - improved on her time from last year and took the prize. Titouan Barthelemy was quickest Junior - another addition to his rapidly growing palmares - and his valedictory appearance as he's Frexiting with his family this summer: France's gain is our loss. Vet (40+) Supervet (50+) and Master (60+) prizes went to Jon Puleston-Jones, Charlie Codrington and Johnno Hudson respectively. James Broughton is changing his name to Brompton after winning the Fastest Folder and Tom Hazelton honked his fixie up the slope in an impressive time. Twice. David Rees once again gave us a glimpse of his stable of bikes - more than you can shake a spoke at by the look of it - and nailed the MTB time amongst attempts with road bike, folder, cross-bike, silly helmet etc etc… Special mention to Dan Botting who turned in a great time on a bike + babyseat and son Edward. Equally creditable was James Tredray who won the Wacky Bike category with trailer bike and daughter stoking for him. Another Tredray - young Toby - won the Youngest Rider prize. The Lanterne Rouge awards went to Hannah Fishpool and John Tymukas (who had a go despite a nasty off and a bang on the head a couple of weeks ago… or maybe because of that) and the Doomed Heroism Award (awarded in honour of Russ Hogge who attempted the climb on his penny-farthing in 2014... doomed, heroically) went to Dean Wicks who insisted on attempting it with a flat front tyre. His second run with a new inner only shaved off 4 seconds proving that a flat tyre really is only flat at the bottom. There was only one serious contender for the Silly Costume category: Libby Flintstone-Gordon who came in traditional Kiwi Kavewoman-wear.
So well done all! And HUGE thanks to all our volunteers: marshals, sweepers, bike-holders, signers-on and special thanks to the timing team Liisa, Bob, Rahal, Nathan and Jeremy. And a final hat-tip to the Dulwich Estate for allowing us to use their footpath for a few hours of sweat and silliness. We'll be back for more in 2017. Here's a link to the full list of times on Bob's Leader-Board (for some reason we put the youthful Dan Botting in the SuperVet cat - and for any misspellings of names… sorry) www.bobski.org/FootPath2016.htm

PS - if anyone lost an iPod yesterday, one was handed to me near the start line on the footpath.

DJB.
I suspect that tihe iPod might belong to a family who came across Low Cross Gate & had asked iif one had been handed in. I suggested that they wander down & ask you, but they passed.

Will have to sign up for calligraphy lessons. My handwriting legibility has seen me renamed as Mark Yum! Quite like the sound of that!
