If it's "lovely" you're not trying hard enough...

If it's "lovely" you're not trying hard enough... Sara Barman Was lovely tonight, though. So many riders were out in the evening sunshine we had to split into five groups. Where were you - eating birthday cake? ;-)

David Wadsworth - I already had my dose of lovely pain: a frisky DPNC ride earlier in the day...

Looks like rain isnt due until 9pm tonight now, so I plan to join the slowest group tonight to stretch the tired legs.

I'm hoping to be there too, work willing, but I'll have my turtle helmet on so will be pretty slow too - wouldn't mind a 'recovery' ride, as much as a chaingang can be recovery...

Hi esteemed Paragon clubmates - I'm thinking of coming along to this, but need a sanity check as a relatively new rider.
Pace is probably OK from the cryptic clues scattered here, but I don't have much group riding experience.
Is the chaingang a Bad Idea?
I love the idea of a hard workout with clubmates, but I'm less keen on killing everyone mid-ride by giving the wrong hand signal...
Happy to give it a few more weeks of weekend rides if the chaingangs need a bit more 'seasoning'.
Cheers all - happy riding!

Hi Mark, I'd say give it a go. Start out with the steady group and make sure everyone you are with knows it's your first time riding the chaingang. Signals and calls are the same as any group ride, the main thing is to keep things as smooth as possible, don't accelerate when your turn on the front comes around and avoid any sudden movements. Communicate as much as possible, if you need to slow down tell the people behind before you touch the brakes, if you see a pothole but don't have time to point to it then shout etc...
I'm planning to be out on Wednesday so hopefully see you at cadence. Ian

Thanks for the advice Ian - much appreciated.
I can't make this Wednesday but plan to join in from next week. I'll be sure to let others know that I'm a chaingang newbie.

Hi All
I'm a newbie as well and am planning on coming tomorrow night - do we meet at Cadence or Elmers End? 7pm?

I'll be on the chaingang tonight. A group of us normally meets at Cadence at 7, and then cycles down to elmers together for 7.15

Can someone please post up here to let us know that Javi is ok after his crash tonight? Sending healing vibes your way and hope you're ok!
As for my group... That has to be one of the messiest chain gangs I've ever seen; and ya'll took off when my chain dropped apart from Jo! I'll remember that!
