BC Accredited Marshals have statutory powers to stop traffic - and are a vital new tool in road race management. The dozen or so we had with us on the Wally Gimber this year were superb and played a big part in us delivering a safe and well-regulated race. After the event, one or two people expressed an interest in training to become one, so here's your chance ...
The next Accredited Marshal Scheme course is 24 June and we're looking to continue our AMS expansion to support road racing. Candidates need to attend a half-day course followed by five races per year. In exchange, you'll receive a free Bronze membership plus AMS clothing. I was chatting to one of the accredited marshals at the end of the Wally G and she said "that was exciting I've never seen a bike race before". So I think it is fair to say that no prior experience is necessary.
And that is a compliment to BC's training, not a criticism.
