Quite a few people wished me well before this race and wanted to know how I got on so I thought I report back. It took me 12:21h in total to swim 3.8k, cycle 180k and run a marathon. Unfortunately I was wearing ultralight trainers with very little cushioning which meant that I had to run-walk the last 17km because my feet and knees felt broken. Apart from that I’m very happy how everything went. It is an amazing event, organised by the same family for decades and has kept, despite its size (5500 participants), a very personal touch. The entire town helps out, more than 7000 volunteers are needed so every family gets involved. Needless to say that the support before, during and after the race was outstanding.
I’d like to thank the Sunday riders I shared all those miles with in sleet, snow, rain and sunshine which gave me a solid base to be able to enjoy this race.
