"The most boring cross race I've ever done" - E Davies.
Last Thursday the summer series took to Beckenham Place Park. Unfortunately the old golf course area used for last year's race was not available, so the sand bunkers which provided so much entertainment could not be included this time. Faced with a featureless section of flat, hard-packed grass the organisers did their best and went to town with a vast array of tape to create a course with long fast straights interspersed with tight twisting turns, and one pair of hurdles. The 11-42 cassette (who knew that existed?) that Dax had put on earlier that day was definitely not going to be needed.
Dulwich was far and away the best represented club with 2 juniors (66% of the field), 2 in the seniors, 4 in the old men (V40) and 3 in the very old men (V50). Olivia was in the women's race in her very classy Scarpa Racing team kit. As is the way with summer series everyone was on the course at the same time with 3 start waves.
Notable performances: Eddie Davies won the juniors (obvs) and was 6th overall. Olivia Campbell was third woman in a small but strong field. Dylan Bexley got a top 10 in the V40 Charlie Codrington and I got top 10 in the V50. OK so there were only 14 riding and I was 9th, but I'm still having that. Zach Pescod-Everiss made his race debut in the juniors, putting Tuesday night training skills to good use. And it was great to see Mark Hindley make a very welcome return to racing in the very old men category.
Once all that unpleasant racing was out of the way we moved on to the back garden of the Chancery in Beckenham for the evening's main business.
Next race 16 August at HHV - come and race or just come and heckle. The bar will be open.

I’ve just checked with BC, I’m going to be racing in very, very old men this season. If I’d checked earlier, I would have come second (of 2) in V60 at Beckenham instead of 14/14 in V50...
