Before the madness that is Ride London, allocation of team places (if we get any) etc starts, I'd like you ALL to read this from the organisers regarding swapping places...
The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 event is the largest sportive in Europe, enabling 25,000 riders to enjoy a traffic free ride through London and Surrey over 100 miles. This event is delivered by LSCP. There is high demand to take part in the event and as such, we run a ballot to manage places.
In order to hold the event, LSCP apply for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order 16a road closure, this allows us to close the roads for the participants of the event. Anyone cycling on the roads closed for the event without being an official entrant is breaching the terms of this closure and therefore will be riding illegally and can be taken to court.
Participants should also note that anyone attempting to ride using another person’s entry will be disqualified and banned for life from the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey events.
Selling, swapping or counterfeiting numbers is strictly prohibited for a number of reasons, the most important of which is the danger and confusion it can cause in the event of an incident on the route. The information provided in the registration process included next of kin and emergency contact information. If a rider’s place is being used by someone else, then the emergency services and medical professionals waste valuable time and this action might cause great distress and concern to close friends/family and can stop the emergency services contacting the correct person in the event of an accident. Please also note, riding under an illegal number could constitute one of a number of criminal offences including under the Fraud Act and the Theft Act. It also gives rise to a number of causes of civil action against the rider.
LSCP take all matters involved in riding illegally during the event very seriously. We are writing to all of the British Cycling Clubs to ensure you understand our policy and to ask you to communicate it to your riders. If riders are caught, riding the event without authorisation or passing on their number, we reserve the right to commence legal action against them. In addition, we reserve the right to exclude the rider a) who is riding illegally and b) that allows another rider to use their event number; from all future editions of RideLondon.
As cycling clubs receive an allocation of guaranteed entries in the British Cycling Club Challenge, we hope that you advise your members to only ride the event with a valid entry. If we find members of a cycling club repeatedly riding our events without a valid entry we may unfortunately have to cease that clubs’ guaranteed entries through the British Cycling Club Challenge.
London & Surrey Cycling Partnership are keen to ensure that the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 event remains a fun, rewarding and safe event for all of the 25,000 riders. Knowledge of all the riders present on the course is essential. We look forward to working with you to ensure the integrity of the event is maintained. If you have any comments or queries on our policy please contact helpdesk@ridelondon.co.uk
