This is a great mid-week training.. getting out into the lanes of an evening is so beautiful and refreshing. Joe has restarted the steady chaingang which rides at the pace of the slowest group member, there is also an intermediate pace group now for those wanting to push it more. I'd really like to encourage more women to come to these; last night there were 40ish guys but no other ladies. I promise you that you'll be quicker than me...

I think there were 5 of us tonight! Hard work on my legs... 53 hours recovery time 😱

I started with the intermediates B then dropped in to the steady, which worked well. Good briefing from Joe for the steadies 👍. TSS was 266 working off HR... heavy winter bike = increased workout... thank goodness I only had one water bottle on... 😱.

Yes I’ve had to switch to lighter bike to make up for the wrong sort of training camp ‘gains’!

Yes I’ve had to switch to lighter bike to make up for the wrong sort of training camp ‘gains’! I don't think they make a bike light enough to negate the 15kg I've gained!

What sort of pace is the steady group averaging these days? I'm thinking of re-starting, but would like to know what I'm letting myself in for/what I'm aiming at!
(I realise there's a 'don't drop anyone' ethos, but don't want to keep people waiting too much)

(I realise there's a 'don't drop anyone' ethos, but don't want to keep people waiting too much) I averaged 23kph but that was with my journey there and back, so probably 25kph on the chaingang. It will depend on who is there...we should coordinate you, me & Rhoma and perhaps some others(?) so there are a few of us and then we won't feel like we're holding people up! Emma (and anyone else) did you want to join the 'Steadier rides' Whatsapp group? We try to coordinate different rides on that...lemme know and I can add you.

I would be up for that once Beastway is over. You’ll be fine in the intermediate or faster groups!

(I realise there's a 'don't drop anyone' ethos, but don't want to keep people waiting too much) Please come along Emma, you will be absolutely fine, especially off the back of a winter of Turbobeat (and the "don't drop" ethos really is intended, though we had a glitch this week). We've only had two steady groups this year with different people and group sizes so yet to settle down to a typical pace. Also worth noting that if looking at people's rides on Strava, chaingang average speeds will always be quicker than standard club rides because a) the route is faster and b) it's a chaingang.
