Cath Roulson and I are thinking about a week's cycling and walking in the Ardennes (probably the Belgian part - beer and frites obvs) in September. Anyone got any tips for where to go / stay / ride?

That looks great Mick but sadly this will be a road bike only trip. Tempting though...

Don't know if camping is an option but this is a really excellent campsite. Beautiful location and nice bar and friterie on site. Ile de FaigneulBeautiful climb up and out of the campsite too. Strava route. I'd advise against following that route directly though as there were a couple of unplanned unpaved bits which I'm fairly astonished my GP4000s were able to cope with! All along the Semois river is very pretty.

I remember Houffalize being quite nice, and great for Road cycling and walking - although it’s most famous for off-road cycling. Otherwise - If you really, really, like Belgian Beer, cheese, and Frites you could stay here: chimay.com/en/auberge-de-poteaupre/(It is in the middle of nowhere though, and there is literally nothing else to do but drink beer and eat steak & frites and Cheese - other meal options are NOT available)

We've booked a place in a village called Redu - about 30km north of where Martin stayed and 50km west of Houffalize. Also 50km from the Trappist abbey at Orval and 80km from Chimay - not sure if we will get to those but I intend to be doing extension quality assurance of their products. Steak, frites and cheese may also feature. Looks like the riding is going to be very lumpy so we will need to stay fuelled.
