Hi
After spending the morning ringing my cow bell at Ride London folk in Fulham (yes if you were riding that was me screaming Go Dulwich!!), I now need to get sorted for my upcoming holiday to Lake Garda.
Does anyone have any bike guide, route or cafe recommendations? I'd be very keen to do a few days of private or group riding with a local. I'm staying in Toscalano Maderno but can drive to other places on the lake.
Any tips or info much appreciated!
Thanks

Aha - I thought i heard someone shout Dulwich! I was the guy shamelessly wheel sucking and shouting at everyone to keep left.
I don't have any Garda recommendations, but I know Iseo - the next lake along - quite well. You can't really go wrong round those parts...you're either riding round a beautiful lake, or you're heading into the hills for some glorious vistas. A lot of the local bike shops have clubs attached to them. I've asked at a couple of shops before who've been happy to let a newcomer join a Sunday ride.
Lastly, did you check out Strava for any particularly popular routes? The heat map is handy for that.
Buon Vacanze!

Fab - thank you, I'll go and poke a few local bike shops. And glad that someone did hear me - it was really fun to watch.

Been looking at various Italian gran fondos: there is one around lake Garda called the colnago cycling festival which might be a nice route To steal. Can’t find the route on strava but sure it can be unearthed with some more digging. Official site is here: www.colnagocyclingfestival.com/en/2019/02/23236/

Also - if in Garda - don’t miss sirmione. A crazy medieval town that juts out Into the lake on the southern shore. Haven’t been for years but remember it as a very special place.

Hello, I did a nice route around there a couple of years ago. There are some beautiful hairpins down into Gargnano. I came down them with the view out to the lake. I'm sure they'd be fun to go up too, if you like that sort of thing! Here's my route: Strava linkThe stretch of road up to the mountains isn't so great. I found a lot of Italian "main" roads in the region aren't terribly cycling friendly as they're quite narrow for the two car lanes. It was fine though. The part in the mountains was great. Martin

If you head towards Parma, Modena you will come to the Dolimites which is fab for cycling and not far from Modena is maranello which is the city where they make the ferrari if your interested. Italy is a fab place to cycle ... enjoy
