I just wanted to recommend these guys repair-my-device.com/Both of my Garmin 1000s had the same problem in that the plastic power button degraded and then broke meaning the device would now let in moisture and could no longer be used. Garmin support said because they were over 3 years old, they were obsolete and they couldnt be repaired. These chaps were great; they quoted £60 to replace the back cover (is quite an involved job because of the connections on it that even my husband who has a room full of circuit boards he plays with didnt want to attempt). Whole process of quote, sending it, the repair, payment and sending back took under a week and they've done a great job. They do a whole range of devices, very much recommend.

I’ve had the same problem with most of my garmin devices, though have resorted to more ‘blue Peter’ style fixes. A 1 inch coiled length of a piece of 10mm thick elastic band fits in nicely and then sticky tape on top.
