So who's coming out for a quick blast to Polhill and back?
I'm doing it, and so is Claire. I saw Joanne McCrae too, who said she'll be out. Karen are you feeling up to doing it?
Bryan Taylor will be chaperoning this week.
Weather doesn't look too bad either. Should be a good evening.

I guess I had better drag my legs out again then although forecast is a bit iffy at th emoment.
If there's as many riders as last week it might be worth splitting the group into 2 quite early, possibly at the start even, as might make it a bit safer on the early stages & enable more people to do proper through & off rather than 1 huge group. We'll decide on the evening depending on numbers.

Good stuff ladies - Rohan is coming too.
Weather forecast says it'll stay dry but cloudy - so shouldn't be too cold.
Two groups sounds a good idea if we have as many people as we did last week Bryan - see you later. :-)

seemed to go ok tonight. Wasn't easy with the numbers - at 7.15 there were about 15 of us & therefore got ready to go as one group. 5 mins later there's over 25 so I tried to split into 2, but only 2 volunteered for the fast group - most people stayed quiet! So in the end I gave up & split it straight down the middle & went! With over 20, it's just a bit risky on the way out of town with traffic trying to overtake & getting stuck in the middle of the group, & then trying to do through & off with such a large group doesn't work well either, the slower riders never get a chance to do any turns, just hang on & get dropped & other riders get caught behind & then start sprinting to get back on - better to split into 2 to keep things more organised.
1st group split into 2 & my group of 5 seemed ok, though no none was saying too much which shows the speed was probably ok! First group seemed to have split to pieces on polhill though, not sure if people were going through too hard or not.
Coming back was pretty good though, a decent workout all the way into Bromley. Someone (Karen?) punctured & at least 1 other stopped so we continued. Jo was going well, & Sarah, Claire & Ro were in there no problem too.
think we're gonna need to report those holes though, every week someone is getting an impact puncture & I think a few rims have been dented on one of the group of holes by Knockholt.

Thanks for the ride guys, and the words of encouragement Bryan.
Initially I thought I was going to be in trouble, but mid way through on the way out I managed to kick into a nice rhythm.
Great bit of training, and the bowl of pasta at home come 9.30pm bearly touched the sides!

That was brisk for a Wednesday. People at the front of the fast group shouldn't be nervous about riding the Tuesday and Thursday gangs in terms of getting a kicking (unless people decide to use them as a burn up, kevin).
Faster riders need to remember to ease off a little as they get to the front of the group. It wasn't happening that much last night with the result that the ride gets faster and faster until it blows to pieces.
Apart from that, good fun.

ooooh, that was hard. But its meant to be so that's okay and its my own fault for enjoying a sedentary winter eating and drinking. Thanks Bryan for chaperoning. That little push on Coney Hall Hill was very welcome.
It was me that punctured on the way back. Richard stayed with me (what a good husband) so I was quite happy for everyone else to go on. It was that ditch coming down polhill causing a pinch puncture. Its not much good shouting hole when you're on top of it!
I'll be out next week barring plague, flood and pestilence

Sounds like it was a good ride. It was good to see a few girls out. I was not well so only had the energy to get to Elmers End, say hello and go home to bed. I will be there next week. By the way, following on from Bryan's note, we need to get some sort of guidelines together on how to organise groups. We were rather overwhelmed by the numbers on Wednesday. Loads of blokes are turning up because they've heard there'll be ladies out ! What I mean is that because they know it's been billed as a ladies' ride people think that there is a high chance that they won't get their legs ripped off like in the bad old days. The more the merrier, I say, but based on the numbers we had in the last couple of weeks we need to have at least two groups - probably one containing the majority of the women as was the case on Wednesday, and the other groups being led by an experienced rider to control the pace. But as has been said already, guys turning up at these rides (outside of the group leaders) are riders, who in principle haven''t raced before and are learning to ride a chaingang. Something to discuss at the club meeting I think.

Just set the men off 5mins after the women, newbies and chaperone. Women leave at 7.15 on the dot, men leave at 7.20.
