I would quite like to have a go at this at some point. Is there a club record to target?

That's the spirit Mat! Wonder if there's a published hour record for unshaven legs?

Id like to try. I went out running for the first time in 20 years and was 10 mins faster than i had expected so i think I've a good chance of getting close to a substantial hour record. There are definitely some days when i can imagine myself going round the track really fast. And after all they do say that a lot of it is in the visualisation and the power of the imagination.
Also my first name is graham and I'm scottish and have creative ideas so that might help too, possibly.

Ive also really narrow feet which would help with streamlining. Chris Boardman has quite wide feet so I would have that advantage over him for example.
Alan Strang does have a better nose for aero dynamics, unfortunately mine is a bit bulbous, more like picassos so I've some things to work on obviously.

Graham, You could always try the alternative hour record. Alternative meaning one handed with the other hand catching and eating the continuous supply of your favourite ice cream. With the form you've got in this discipline I reckon the record is within your grasp. And I reckon at least twice as many ice creams as you do laps of HHV should be your minimum target.

I've never truly appreciated the aero benefits afforded to Al by virtue of his nose before. It makes so much sense now I think about it.

Just to add a vague note of (in)sanity to the occasion this is on the edge of feasible: www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/cycling-no-hands-distance-in-1-hourHas stood since 2009. A DP member ten years back was going to attempt the absolute record for cycling with no hands at Herne Hill Velodrome. He only got as far as contacting the Guiness Book of Records before emigrating to USA. I seem to remember that it was an absurdly low distance but can't find a record of it. That is your challenge.....

Thanks for the pictures David. Nice to see some colour and beauty on the forum.
Hadn't come across that portrait of Mr Strang before, didn't realise he had sat for the great painter. Amazing.

Always a pleasure to discuss art with you, Graham.
I think in future all chaingangs should start and finish at the Dulwich Picture Gallery, and there should be post-Palace water-colour painting classes. Using real blood for red, of course.

Based on past experience, it would be far more colourful, Dave, if instead of blood I used the various things coughed up during the chaingang to paint with..

Thanks DJB - maybe a good likeness on a Monday morning. I've always considered myself more of a Renaissance man than a Cubist though;)
