I'm still potentially on for tonight, I definitely need to stretch my legs but the forecast doesn't look great (going by the BBC so assuming it will be wrong). After a few dry sunny rides over the last couple of weeks I took the over-eager step of removing the mudguards from my bike, so if it is raining I'll probably save you the spray and ride solo.

@james, Last year the Summer CG route was modified slightly to go up Beddledstead lane instead of along the Croydon Rd. A few of us have had some very near misses with some really dangerous drivers blasting past on the Croydon Rd.. Best to avoid. ridewithgps.com/routes/2475780

Isn't Beddlestead a bit of a hill to be good for chainganging Michael? I could imagine it would be fine if all were equally fast up hills but might be more likely to pull apart if not.

I spoke too soon and won't be able to join tonight - I have a meeting until 7pm today (and my legs are still a bit tired from the weekend!) I will do my best to be there next week.

I would like to go this week- can someone post the chaingang route so If I'm feeling a bit out of my depth speed wise I can drop off? What time do we meet? Beth with sunset still early in the evening my guess is it'll still be the winter route this week www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Dulwich-Paragon-winter-chaingang Also note as the streetlights are still off on Poll Hill some groups are turning back at the roundabout before. See ya later

None of the chain gangs I rode last year went up Beddlestead. Didn't have any issues with car drivers but the road surface on Croydon Road did become more plowed field like as the year went on!

@katherine,
Beddlestead Lane becomes another draggy hill where its a case of hanging on for as long as possible before popping. Of course, everyone should wait at the end for a regroup, as is the case for Polhill.

Great session tonight; a group of six of us rode in the 'slower' group; still managed an ave of 28.8kph for the 1.5hr chaingang...44km and group all stuck together pretty much and picked up two more for the ride back from Polhill.

One comment about last night's chaingang. Riders need to be a lot tighter together when riding through and off. The includes riding shoulder-to-shoulder as well as wheel to wheel.
Some points along the A21 riders on the right column were all the way out in the middle of the road when the left column was right next to the gutter. There should be no reason for 2 lines of riders to take up more than half the road.
And when we have to stop at lights, maintain the column order. Don't drift into another line or fill the space at the advanced stop area.
Cheers

That was certainly the case with our group as well @michaelwilliams; thanks for highlighting. The inner lane was also not always in line (people didnt half wheel, but were not directly behind the rider in front) so then this meant the outside line had to effectively overtake two riders already and it made it look messy as well as taking up too much space on the road.
Also please remember you have a responsibility (its not optional) to point out (or call out if you cant safely take your hands off the bars) any significant holes; when someone is riding on your wheel right behind you, they just cant see the holes and need a warning.

I'm coming along; hoping the legs will have recovered a bit from our Spanish hills!
