Lot's of choices this weekend with another Time Trial, an Off-Road ride and a couple of MTB races to keep you all busy. Plus, more CP crits and Beastway coming up in the week ahead too! But first there's quite a bit to catch-up on from this week;
First up, Round 2 of the Harry Must TT. Despite setting a slower time than the previous week (baggy Rapha jumpsuit perhaps?) Titouan took the top spot in the Juniors once more. Coming in second with a storming ride was Eddie who managed to shave 31 secs off his time despite a stiff headwind and chilly temperatures. Luke was third with another strong ride, again lowering his PB second time out by 19sec. Alas Patrick wasn't able to replicate his flying ride from the previous week but still came in 4th. Stepping up to the Seniors this year, Will rode a strong TT to take 3rd in the Road Bike class with a time that was only a few secs off of his PB from last week. It was another great turn-out with yet more outstanding performances throughout. Well done all.
Joe, Eddie and Titouan were in action at the Palace Crits on Tuesday evening. In the Youth race Eddie was a fine 4th and Titouan 6th in what sounded like quite a tough race. As Eddie described it, 'the field was very strong and there a lot of elbows and argy-bargy involved so I'm pretty please with my result. Titouan was 6th after being worked over by the others and a close call on the last lap'.
In the 3/4s Joe was making his first appearance as a 3rd cat since earning his promotion. A strong start saw him sitting comfortably up in top 10 from the beginning. Alas it wasn't to be this time round as a couple of wrong moves and some dodgy riding from others put him on the back foot and he soon found himself in the Dulwich 'groupetto' off the back of the main bunch. Better luck next time!
Not content with racing Palace on Tuesday, Eddie was also in action at the latest round of Beastway up at Hog Hill. Showing no signs of fatigue he rode to a superb 3rd place in the mud on what by all accounts was a rather twisty and difficult course. It seems fitting then to resurrect the old 'Star of the Week' award this week for Eddie. Chapeau sir!
Saturday 21st May – Juniors, Time Trial OR Off-Road ride (the choice is yours!) No Youth ride
Choices galore for the Juniors this week. For those of you with a penchant for trying to defy time, space and the laws of physics, Dave will be leading a ride out to the third round of the Harry Must club 10 TT, again over on the Bletchingley circuit.
And for those of you with a penchant for mud, dirt and bike cleaning products, Charlie will be leading an off-road ride out into the wilds of Greater London and North Kent. Expect the usual kind of affair with the odd road, lots of bridleways, Jewels Wood and the potential for another Golden Horse Shoe Award nomination all thrown into the mix.
Off-Road Ride;
Meet at the velodrome at 845am for a 9am start
Ride to Time Trial at Bletchingly
Same as last week – 845am at the velodrome for a prompt start at 9am.
If you haven’t handed one in yet and you are under 18 you’ll need A SIGNED TT PARENT CONSENT FORM
Being a time trial there are loads of rules - most relevant are to turn up on time with a signed TT Parents consent form. To that end - we will all (me included) meet at the velodrome at 8.45 am and leave by 9 sharp. If you’re running late - please text me (Dave) and meet us en route, we will be riding the normal route out - Palace, Annerly, Elmers End, West Wickham, Layhams….
As full a set of details as necessary are on the Dulwich Forum - dulwichparagon.proboards.com/thread/9750/harry-club-tt-events-2016
Time Trial (TT) Parent Consent form (WHICH YOU WILL NEED) is also on the forum :
dulwichparagon.proboards.com/thread/8783/parents-consent-forms
Entry to the TT is free for all Youths and Juniors who are members of either Dulwich or Herne Hill Youth. (yet another staggering bargain for a membership fee of £10) Non Club members I think £3 will cover.
Note: Aero bars are not to be fitted or used on the ride out to Bletchingly. If you’re fortunate enough to have a pointy helmet and a TT bike you’re very lucky and had better be pretty fast, standard road bikes and kit are absolutely OK.
Did I mention the TT Parents consent form?
Rides and Time trials will be on the road or part on road so normal pack drill:
Helmets must be worn
BC HHYCC and/or DP Membership required
Bring spare inner tubes that fit your bike
Wear suitable clothing for the weather
Money for emergency buns
Food and water
The name and telephone number of an adult who can rescue you on a PIECE OF PAPER in your back pocket.
Parents and Guardians - please the contactable and available to rescue your charge should the need arise.
Sunday 22 May loads of options -
MTB - 2 events to chose from, either be one of first to ever race on the MTB circuit at Stratford with MSG or there is a Southern XC in Winchester.
