The Gallic domination of Essex’s finest series continues - that young Titan Titouan claimed another first at the MSG on Sunday. Welldone - we’re going to miss you lad.
Saturday 9th July - Youth and Junior Road ride
Youths - Mark will be leading a Youth road ride out to the nether parts of outer Bromley - meet at the usual time 9.30 for a return to Cafe paradou around 2pm.
Juniors - We’ll be leading a longer ROAD ride to recce the Cross course at Leeds Castle. Meet at the velodrome at 9am, we will ride down to Leeds Castle (it’s near Maidstone) and most likely catch a train back - so bring a train fare etc with you.
Remember ride will be on the road so normal pack drill required: -
Helmets must be worn
BC HHYCC and/or DP Membership required
Bring spare inner tubes that fit your bike
Wear suitable clothing for the weather
Money for emergency buns
Food and water
The name and telephone number of an adult who can rescue you on a PIECE OF PAPER in your back pocket.
Parents and Guardians - Please be contactable and available to rescue your charge should the need arise.
Sunday 10th July
Southern XC near Winchester - by all reports this should be a better event than the previous .
Saturday 16th July - Farewell to Titouan - Ride to Brighton
I think you are all now well aware that the Barthelemy family will be returning to France this summer, and no, don’t feel sorry for Titouan, not only does he speak the lingo, but he’s moving to the South of France where the weather is blooming fantastic and the riding better than the weather - lucky devil…...I know he’ll be picked by a decent a club and I’m confident that one day we’ll see him on the telly.
Enough of this sentimental drivel - to celebrate his time with us we will be escorting him to Brighton next Saturday, expect a gruelling route which will include some of the climbs he has gotten to know so well, along with a few more.
This will be an all day ride, bring money for fish and chips and another train fare home again.
Monday 25th July - Friday 29th - MTB Youth Leader Award.
This I hope will be of interest to some of you, as this is essentially a coaching course (albeit sounds rather more fun than the standard BC offering) bursaries are available from both HHYCC and Dulwich Paragon, let me know pronto (like by return) if you are interested.
The MTB youth leader award delivered by Epping Forest District Council is a qualification for young people aged 14 – 17 who would like to gain experience of coaching and leading in an outdoor sport.
The course initiates the development of personal skill and team working skills that are not only vital when leading groups but also vital in every day working life. The course also teaches navigational skills and develops in young people the ability to plan and problem solve all within the context of an outdoor and adventurous sport.
The course runs every day from Monday the 25th July to Friday 29th July 9am – 4pm at Epping Forest District Councils, Community Services Offices, 25 Hemnall Street, Epping, Essex, CM16 4LU.
The course is delivered by professional mountain biking coaches who between them have a wealth of experience and have lead group rides in all parts of the world.
Course Cost £100 (all equipment and resources provided).
