A fine team and a fine result at the Tork 12 hour MTB Team event last weekend, Stan Nutter, Ed Davies and Young Mr Rees put in a fine effort coming 3rd in the 3 man team event - a full report to follow…..
As always, caught completely unaware, summer is, alas, on the way out and we’ll be back cold, wet, mud cyclocross and Autumn by the weekend.
Autumn is always a good opportunity for those that want to improve to start joining in the activities on a regular basis, we do fewer long fast rides and more skills training sessions to help riders gain fitness gradually over the winter.
Saturday mornings - we will be running Cross/MTB training sessions interspersed with gentle road rides. The Cross training session are aimed at all riders of all ages - youths, juniors and adults, and we will be shamelessly encouraging to race in the London League. Road rides will be tailored to the particular groups/abilities.
Sunday - London League Cross Races - an incredibly welcoming and friendly series, all riders who wish to improve their skill and fitness level need to join in the fun.
Wednesday Evenings - Until October - Juniors should be aiming to join the Chain Gang, after which Dulwich will be running weekly road bike training on the track at Herne Hill. There will also be 8 to 10 evening Cross training evenings between October and March.
Thursday Evenings from October onwards Youth and Junior riders are encouraged to join in BC’s excellent (but hideously named) Cluster Sessions. Essentially a progressive winter training program with road bikes on the track.
Reviewing the progress of riders over the last few years, it’s clear - if you are 12 years or older and want to up your game you need to be regularly attending a mid week and a weekend session, do this until Easter and your place on the start line of the Tour is guaranteed.
Bike Loans
Winter means mud and Cross bikes, (almost a road bike with knobbly tyres), if you don’t have one let me know and I’m sure we can find a bike for you to borrow.
Rides on Saturday 3rd September
Junior and Espoires- We will be running a Junior and Espoires road ride this Saturday, checking out a few of the reasonably local hills - meet at 9 am at the velodrome, finish at Paradou around 1pm. This will be a gentle ride - several of you will be racing on Sunday.
Helmets, repair kits, chip money, etc all required. NB if it’s your first ride ride with us - please bring a signed parental consent form.
Youth - Youth riders are encouraged to join the HHYCC 11 o’clock session.
Sunday 4th September - Rd 1 London League - Stanmer Park - Brighton
1st race in the season and its a good course, check the website www.londonxleague.co.uk for further details. Be warned - there have been changes to the race timings, oh and do turn up a bit earlier to allow for the helmet tag malarky.
Friday 9th September - Dulwich World’s Nocturn at Stratford
Road race to celebrate the end of the Summer Road season and the brief interlude before the start of the Winter Road road season - event starts at 19.00 and is open to Junior and Espoire DP members (although it’s not clear yet which race you will be racing in). It’s a case of turn on the day with at least a fiver to enter. Let me know if you’re planning to enter and I’ll work something out with the organiser.
By tradition and to help the judging - please don’t ride this race in club kit.
