Another bevy of strong rides, performances and results from Penshurst on Sunday. In Youth A, Max Lawson was just shy of the podium in 4th with some lap times that would have put some of the seniors to shame! In Youth B, Joe was 3rd (8th overall) and Jules was 6th (15th overall). Continuing his strong start to the season, Milo was flying again in 12th with Harry not too far behind in 13th – both ahead of quite a few A riders too! Well done to all of you.
In the Juniors, Eddie was unlucky to pick-up a puncture just past the pits losing him quite a few places after a strong start. He still recovered well to finish 4th and 26th overall. Luke meanwhile had one of his strongest races yet and stormed to 11th in a tough Junior field and 42nd overall out of 74 starters. Top ten results are surely just around the corner. Well done and keep up the hard work.
Cross Training Session #3 – Saturday 24th September
We'll be heading over to Mitcham this Saturday for the next instalment of honing those cross skills yet further. This time round Eddie will be enlightening us all in the delicate art of mounting and dismounting. I've no doubt he'll have us all hopping on and off like 'pro's' rather than a postie or someone being attacked by a swarm of bees before the end of the session!
As with our previous sessions, this will be an off-road affair so suitable only for cross or mtb bikes. It's open to all, both youth and juniors and we'd encourage all those racing or keen to try cross to join us if you can. Not only will these sessions help you hone your skills further but they're almost guaranteed to gain you places in future races!
Seeing as it's the 'HHYCC Trails Fundraising Thingy' this Saturday, we'll be returning to the velodrome at approx 1pm rather than up to the usual haunt at CP. Sources reliably inform me there'll be a BBQ, refreshments and 'recovery' cake available. We'll also aim to do a few laps of the trails to show our support either before or after the training session as well.
So, meeting at the velodrome for c.9.15am and we'll aim to be back to the velodrome for 1pm approx. and HHYCC Trails Fundraising Thingy.
There is a limited supply of bikes available for Juniors/Youths who need one. Please contact Charlie, Mark or I as soon as pos. so we can assist you if you require a bike.
The ride will be partly on the road so normal pack drill required:
BC and HHYCC or DP membership required (unless this is your first ride)
Helmets must be worn
Spare inner tube
A full water bottle and some food
Money for tea and cake
Number of your parent/guardian/rescuer/responsible adult on a piece of paper.
If it’s your first ride - a signed Parental Consent form.
Note – you should be able carry all the above on your bike or in your jersey pockets. We are only going a few miles down the road to a local park – not some elaborate jaunt into the countryside. Rucksacks, tents, gazebos, packed lunches, picnics, survival kits etc won't be necessary.
Mud Sweat & Gears MTB – Langdon Hills, Essex – Sunday 25th September
