Great to see so many of trekking down to Brighton last weekend, even better to see the usual haul of decent results, Jules leading the way winning the Youth A by a decent margin, Max working his magic coming in 4th in the Youth B, Milo again improving on his last performance. Hayden won the Juniors, stronger at the start - but still a win, with Luke putting in some decent early laps before the hill and winds got to him.
It’s not often that the coaches get a mention - however Don demolished the field in the Pipe and Slippers (Vet 50) winning by an embarrassingly comfortable margin, Dave pulled in a strong 4th in the seniors.
Saturday 15th October Dulwich Hill Climb
This is one of those love hate events - incredible simple concept, you start at the bottom of the hill and ride up it as fast as you can. This year we revisit Star Hill which is still as high and as delightful as it was last year.
We will be leading Junior ride out to the HQ - Knockholt Village Hall, aiming to leave the velodrome at 9 am sharp to arrive around 10.15 - returning to Paradou suitably knackered around 1.30.
The event is open to all Youth and Junior riders - however, given we have to arrive at Knockholt on time, Youth riders are very strongly encouraged to badger their parents/guardians to give them a lift to the HQ. Officially you need to be at Knockholt at 10 am sharp.
Sunday 16th October Rd2, East Kent Cross League
By all reports this will be a pretty awesome course featuring a scaffold bridge and other technical trail thingys not normally seen on your average CX Course - definitely worth the trip out to the back end of Kent.
Mid week Evening Training
Tuesday Evening - BC Cluster Sessions
Start at 6pm and run through to 7.30 pm, this is a very well planned progressive series of ROAD bike training sessions on the track. Open to any rider aged 12 and above who is racing or has aspirations to so. I cannot recommend these session highly enough - there is a totally proven correlation between attending these sessions regularly and improved riding skill, race results and overall fitness.
As these are British Cycling organised sessions you will need a parents consent form for the first session you attend (attached) and a fee - which I believe is £3 a time - take a fiver to be sure.
Wednesday Evening 19th Oct - Dulwich Paragon Chain Gangs on Track and CX training
This week the road chain gang will be an ‘advanced’ session - this is only open to those Juniors and Espoirs regularly racing, so your best option is to join the CX session we will be running at the same time. Cross or MTB’s suitable.
If you are planning to attend the CX session a decent front lamp is essential - you will be unceremoniously thrown out if you do not have sufficient lumens.
Sunday 23rd October - Rd5 London league at Herne Hill organised by HHYCC
This will be the second best race in the calendar (no prizes for the first - hint 27th November at a some beautiful castle somewhere in Kent) most importantly is the one event where you lot all have the upper hand - you know the place warts ‘n’ all as well as having helped set up and thoroughly tested the course the previous afternoon.
