Storming back from broken bones, Ed not only made some fantastic hurdles but finished in 3rd place at Leeds Castle on what has been described the toughest course in the league, possibly ever…. Cubaidh, obviously unfazed pulled in his best result just outside the top ten and Milo coming in 7th in Youth B’s just ahead of the Shrimp. Grand effort the lot of you.
This weekend
Saturday morning 2 rides:
Off road ride for Youths -
Youth OFF ROAD led by Geoff will leave the velodrome at 9.30 so he’s asking you turn to turn up at 9.00 to allow plenty of phaff time. This ride will be suitable for CX and MTB’s and will approx 15 miles long.
Geoff will be regularly leading rides for those who are currently attending the HHYCC 11 o’clock session and feel the need to progress but aren’t at the level to join the brisker paced Youth and Junior rides that myself and Dave lead out.
Youth and Junior ROAD ride led by myself and Dave will leave the velodrome at 9, we will riding at a steady pace, covering the standard DP route and take in Pilgrims Way for a bit of fun. Suitable for Road Bikes.
Which Ride should I join?
We use the terms Youth and Junior loosely and not necessarily age related. You’ll possibly note there is a progression in our rides, riders progess from the 11 o’clock session, on to the youth rides. As you progress in confidence, speed and stamina, join the Youth and Junior rides led by myself or Dave.
In short, if your are 13 years old and racing regularly, or have ridden with Dave and myself before on a regular basis, you should join a Youth and Junior ride. If you are progressing from the 11 o’clock sessions join the steadier/not so race orientated Youth Rides led by Geoff and Mark.
Parents/Guardians - You must be contactable and available to come and rescue your charge should the need arise. You must be confident that your child can ride on the road safely to a standard equal or similar to Level 2 Bikeability.
Both rides will end at Cafe Paradou on Crystal Palace Parade around 1pm
Rides will be on roads or part on road, so normal pack drill required:
- HHYCC and BC membership required (unless this is your first ride with us)
- Bring water bottle, some food, money, inner tube that fits.
- Wear suitable clothing for the weather
- The number of your rescuer on a piece of paper in your back pocket.
If this is your 1st ride away from Herne Hill with us - a signed parental consent form. (see attached)
All this should fit into the pockets in your jersey - do NOT bring a rucksack or suitcase, you’re going on local ride - not on holiday.
Sunday 4th South East and East Champs Cyclo Park
Note there is no Entry on the Line for Categories above U10 and U12, so if you haven’t entered by now - tough - stay in bed on Sunday morning or do some homework.
Those that have entered - you’re in for a treat, the courses at Cyclopark are normally pretty cool, doable off camber, the steep hill and some switch backs. You’re unlikely to come across the bogs/mountains/lumpy bits you enjoyed so much last week.
