SATURDAY 12th August
It's off-road this Saturday. We'll be heading out on a mini tour of local parks, bridleways, tracks and trails of SE London and Kent. With the cross season only a matter of weeks away, we'll be focusing on cross for most Saturdays from now on – consider it the default unless you hear otherwise in other words! These rides are OPEN TO ALL and we'd like to encourage you all to join us. Most rides will feature an opportunity to hone those skills and then apply them during the rest of the ride.
Usual rendezvous at the velodrome 9am and aiming to be back to Paradou by 1pm.

Having never done a cross race (yet), will that matter for joining / keeping up on Saturday rides? I'd like to think I have a decent level of fitness but recon that'll go out the window when it comes to off road

As Charlie C put it in his cross call-to-arms last month: "All are encouraged to have a go regardless of age, gender, fitness or ability"

Alex. It's all sociable and a great intro to cx skills and local routes.

Great turnout today! Hope you all enjoyed it, despite the odd deflating pauses but there was the bonus mid-ride rehydration training too! As mentioned above, these rides will be happening pretty much every Saturday from now on, unless advertised otherwise. And if you simply can't wait till next Saturday then there's always the off-road chaingang on Thursday evenings, usual meeting place at Elmers End, 7.15pm leaving about 7.25pm.

I am keen to try one of these rides, but do I need a cross bike to join?

I am keen to try one of these rides, but do I need a cross bike to join? You'll need a cross or mountain bike. The club has, via British Cycling, some cross bikes specifically to lend to women. I think @bethbrynhodge is coordinating access to these, though one of them happens to be at my house at the moment.

Was hoping to borrow that one for a few days as Jo Sloman has finally agreed to give off road a try! Will PM you to sort out if thats OK? Esther Drabkin-Reiter maybe we could co-ordinate a time to share this one? I mean not at the same time obvs! (and keep Beth in the loop with who has it so she's not having to track it down!).

Hi both - of course, very happy to share! I was chatting to Joe this evening about arranging a time to pick it up but realistically I won't be able to take the bike out until the bank holiday weekend, so Esther if you want try it before then that's fine.

Are Esther and Jo the same size? It might be that there's another bike of diff size...

Just a reminder, it's nearly Saturday and that means only one thing... SATURDAY CYCLOCROSS!!! Building on last week, we'll again be heading off the metalled thoroughfares for the local parks, bridleways, tracks and trails of SE London and Kent. There'll be another opportunity hone your skills before we head further afield. These rides are OPEN TO ALL and we'd like to encourage you all to join us. Usual rendezvous at the velodrome 9am and aiming to be back to Paradou by 1pm (subject to impromptu inner tube training!)

Yes I will definitely need a much smaller bike than either Jo or Debs! I'll discuss with Beth, thanks for the heads up Joe R Booth

There is another bout of bridleway bashing this Saturday - meet at the velodrome at 9am - I aim to be back at Paradou by 1pm.
Ride open to all regardless of gender, ability or fitness.
