Dusty and hot are not normally adjectives associated with racing at Frylands but these could be added to the usual suspects of gruelling, rocky, tricky and sweaty to describe the 2nd round of the Summer CX Series.
Complete opposite of the previous Frylands adventure of nut cracking brass monkey mud fest, yesterday was Drylands Sahel experience. That said the conditions did nothing about that hill – its still there, little about the sharp twisty trails, again still there, the gravelly corners, yup, very much present and correct and yes the challenge of completing a lap and overtaking someone at the same time – oh yes, bucket loads of that.
A smaller than expected Dulwich contingent was out playing, something about work and been too far away- feeble. Ed glide around the circuit in his normal smooth fashion to gain 1st Junior and 4th overall (the way that lad takes a gravelly corner is impressive), Dylan claims 4th in Old man category as does Olivia in the women’s, if the judges accepted my tenner I came 1st in the very old men but best of all Pete completed his maiden race with a smile on his face - encore mon brave
Round 3 is in 2 weeks at Beckenham Place Park, remember, we are expected to help clear the course before retiring to a debrief.
For those interested in CX - the summer series is the place to try it out, informal, in theory easier courses designed for the less confident and can be done on CX or a MTB. We are also running weekly skillz sessions on Tuesday evenings - details in the weekly Headon Courier.
