Roadbikes Training 2018-2019 at Herne Hill Velodrome
The club is running weekly training sessions again, from Wednesday Oct 3 2018 until Wednesday February 13 2019. Established 4 years ago as a safer, floodlit alternative to the on-road chaingang during the dark months, there will be two blocks:
BLOCK 1: Weds Oct 3 - Weds Dec 19 (12 weeks)
BLOCK 2: Weds Jan 2 - Weds Feb 13 (7 weeks)
BLOCK 1 will aim to... build confidence when riding 'in the wheels; increase strength and endurance; enhance riding skills.
BLOCK 2 will be... geared towards preparation for competition; building power and speed.
There will be three levels of training in BLOCK 1:
Base - suitable for those new to riding on the track, and those looking to improve levels of strength and stamina and become confident riding in a bunch. Intermediate riders are welcome to join, but speeds will be strictly controlled. You may be excluded from future sessions if you don't observe this. These sessions will be facilitated by an experienced fellow club member.
Intermediate - suitable for the majority of club members, who are keen to keep fitness over the dark months and build strength and endurance. Most weeks will feature a good work-out. You will be asked when signing-up to choose between Intermediate and Advanced, as we want to create two distinct groups. Cat 4 racing licence holders can attend these sessions, which will be facilitated by an experienced fellow club member.
Advanced - suitable for E/1/2/3 racing licence holders ONLY. If you choose to ride in these sessions we would prefer you not to ride on Intermediate weeks. These sessions will be coached by a member of the coaching team at Elite Cycling.
There will be an opportunity to change levels when BLOCK 2 opens for booking later in the year. Some Advanced riders may wish to opt for the easier-paced Intermediate nights during the autumn instead; this is fine, but speeds will be strictly controlled and anyone not adhering to the protocol may be asked to leave.
There will be NO Base-level sessions in BLOCK 2.
There will also be CYCLO-CROSS training sessions using the perimeter grounds of the velodrome. Riders will also need to sign-on in the Exodus Pavilion. Details announced in due course.
General
Sessions run from 7.30-9pm and are capped at 40 riders. Weekly sign-on in the Exodus Pavilion from around 7pm. No pre-booking - very much first-come, first-served.
Roadbikes only: no track bikes, or TT rigs. No flashing lights. Bikes must be in good working order and any non-essential items should be removed (e.g. pumps, panniers or anything else that could possibly fall off and cause an accident). Gloves must also be worn (new HHV rule).
The all-weather surface at HHV means sessions can take place, except in extreme or icy conditions. Check forum / Twitter @dulwichparagon for on-the-day info. If it's wet PLEASE use mudguards.
A schedule of sessions, coaches and club facilitators will be published shortly.
Cost - for the first block of 12 weeks - is £10.00. Use link below to register.
