Hello
I'm trying to put pressure on the council to make cycling safer not just for us that like to get into the lanes on a Sunday and blast but for the masses the shopper, the beginner and the school children who wish to cycle to school. How voices will be heard if we do it in large numbers, so please take five minutes and read the letter below/attached as the more people that cycle the less cars there will be ..... arrrrr bliss
Hello
I’m getting in touch with local cycling clubs (list below) to try and put some pressure on councils to
do their duty and either install cycle lanes or to make it safer for people to cycle.
During the lock down a lot of people took up cycling not just as a way to have fun but to keep fit and also to have an alternative way to do short journeys and as a lot of journeys are under 5 miles it makes sense.
There are different ways we could do this but we need to do it in large numbers to make an impact and this is where as clubs we could involve our members. I ride with Dulwich Paragon and will be asking them to go on the site www.widenmypath.com/areas/#londonboroughs also to make cyclists aware of some basic safety rules which they may not know and which could affect them turvec.com/blog/cyclist-visibility-and-the-highway-code/
Also some laws that are not being enforced by the police which cyclists might not know
The Highway Code's insistence cars should leave a decent distance between them and a cyclists when passing (1.5m) is now being strengthened by fines.
Following law changes in March, motorists could be fined for not leaving enough space between a vehicle and a bike. Failure to do so could land you with a £100 fine and three points on your licence.
Police forces across the country are being encouraged to penalise those who drive dangerously close to cyclists.
If you think you could help or have any ideas that you think would contribute to making cycling safer please get involved and let’s see if we can put some pressure on the right people.
