Hi all,
So the government guidelines have been consistent only in their vagueness, and we initially adopted what we felt to be a very responsible position in sticking to the rule of 6 for all club rides. However, as of yesterday’s committee meeting we have now reviewed this decision and altered our position, as outlined below:
First off, the government guidelines, as we understand them:
1. ‘Organised’ club rides can technically include up to 15 riders.
2. ‘Organised’ means track and trace protocol in place & hosted by a uk club/coach.
3. At all times, when not on the bike, rule of 6 still applies.
So we feel comfortable enough to relax our position on club rides to this:
1. ‘Organised’ means no vague ‘meet at this spot, all welcome’ since that makes track and trace impossible. Instead so long as there is prior organisation that lists who will be riding in the group with sufficient contact details accessible to satisfy track and trace then this is an ‘organised’ ride.
2. The forum or WhatsApp groups are acceptable platforms to satisfy this.
3. A ‘club’ ride is a ride that is listed on the website. This includes: Mid-Week Chaingangs, Saturday Rides, Sunday Dawn Raids etc.
4. 15 riders might be the maximum limit, but this is too big a group even for pre-covid times. Think more along the lines of 6-10 riders, 12 riders would be a very big group.
5. Be very aware of yourselves when not riding. Pre ride, during the coffee stop and at the end of the ride usual social distancing rules must be observed: 2m social distance, rule of 6 and regular hand washing.
6. Continue to maintain good hygiene - no spitting, snot rockets etc. All of which should be group riding etiquette anyway!
We want to ride our bikes in groups but all have a responsibility to help prevent a third wave. So remain vigilant, but let’s enjoy some proper group rides with a clear conscience!
