'Pointless canape' is an oxymoron in my opinion. Perhaps we could go to her party? I eat all finger food, even if it isn't cake.

I think the problem lies not with Dulwich but with the other clubs - there is a history of competitive atmospheres and unfriendliness, and people assume this applies to all clubs.
But really, where else could I go out on a saturday ride on my wee little hybrid (with a triple! GASP, not that I use it, honest) and have no one make sarky comments? I once went out with another (unnamed) club who did nothing but say "ohh, you're going to struggle on that" etc etc, all the way round. I was most pleased when I whipped them all on the hills and they had to admit that I might be "alright".
Anyway, well done for getting Zoe along. She's got a better bike than me for heavens sake. Don't know how she felt intimidated...see you all on the 21st

The 21st eh?
I suppose that will allay some fears, I am sure the sight of Ronnie, Todd and I in lycra would put her to fright... Lucky for Zoe we'll be in France!

Just read Zoe's piece. Thought it was quite funny actually and probably captured most first-timer's anxieties. At least she was motivated enough by the sight of all those athletes to buy a coaching book!

You have to get the London Cyclist from LCC.

Could anyone with a load of time on their hands re-type or scan the article?

So did she actually turn up? Read all about it in the next edition of London Cyclist.

For those of us cheap enough not to join LCC, could someone bring the magazine to the club meeting tonight, I would be interested in reading all about it! I do remember the first club ride, its very intimidating having never done anything like it before but having contacted a couple clubs dulwich (namely Bob I seem to remember) were the first to respond and the friendlest too. DP is fantastic club with something for everyone, whether its racing or recreational. The skinsuits and pics of french jaunts on recent posts may be enough to keep the amateurs away however... The key question is will Zoe be heading out again?
