Hello,
I come out with you on Saturday's and would really appreciate it if you would sponsor me. I'm riding from London to Paris this summer on behalf of Action Medical Research.
Action Medical Research fund medical research and have a very impressive track record of results; over the last 50 years they have helped to fund research that has resulted in various breakthroughs including: the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy and the hip replacement operation. These discoveries have helped to save many lives and have prevented disabilities in many others.
Action Medical Research is currently funding research into the prevention of premature birth, the single biggest cause of death and disability in babies. In the UK around 50,000 babies are born prematurely every year. 3000 children die within their first year of life and premature birth is the single largest cause of these deaths. Currently very little is understood about the causes of premature birth and as with most things without understanding the causes of something it is very difficult to come up with a cure. Action Medical Research are funding research that will help us to understand the causes of premature birth and will hopefully enable us to prevent them from happening in future.
I aim to raise as much money as possible by taking part in this ride and encourage you to please sponsor my efforts. You can do this online here: www.action.org.uk/~kkna8702 Or if you don't want to do that you could give me a cheque on Saturday when we meet up at the cafe made out to Action Medical Research.
Many thanks,
Peter
