The E12 race was not entirely without incident I may add.
One sneaky participant who got dropped on the hill decided to have a breather in one of the rhododendron bushes until the bunch passed on the next lap. This fantastic display of cheating was repeated five minutes later when his elastic inevitably snapped again and he had another lap out.
How many times would he do this I wondered? As if no one was watching. At least he wasn't Dulwich but may have been a Paragon..

That guy really annoys me, what can be done about it? Should we have a word with the commisionaires about it? He does it every week

I don't know which is worse; the cheating or the fact that he is hiding behind a bush like a three year old that believes he is invisible.

Rhys and I were laughing about this before the race as he does it regularly and then after the race as we saw him do it again. To be fair I don't think he's aiming for points (i.e. cheating), just to get his £10 worth. Makes me laugh every time. Chasing a club mate down on behalf of the bunch has to be the cardinal sin. Bridge by yourself or with a couple of other riders (ensuring they do some work) is fine but never bring a lone or small breakaway with a club mate in it back on behalf of the group. That's just rude.

Some might say that 2nd cat is the new 3rd cat, and that 3rd cat is the new 4th cat. I hope not. When I go back to 3rd cat next year I am hoping it's exactly like the old 3rd cat!

Name and shame in front of all his peers.
Failing that, we'll talk to the comm.
I was going to do it during the race but couldn't catch my breath enough to blurt out more than 3 words..

Haha, that's amazing because exactly the same thing happened at Palace aaaages ago, and I'm sorry to say it was a Paragon rider. Actually, Bob R knows the full story better than me, but he was/is the only person who's every been asked formally to leave the club.
It was a pretty pathetic incident, but he did something even funnier a few months earlier...
Bob R, this moron (forget is name) and 4 others were doing a TTT. It was a seriously tough event with many sponsored teams, and after 15 mins of hard riding one of the Elite squads overtook the Paragons. This guy then jumps onto the back of the overtaking team! and sits on for miles until getting DQ'd by the Chief Comm!
How do you like that!? Think your team might not get the result you want? Just jump ship to a faster crew! Love that story.

@ David. That is very funny.
@ Michael and Chris - have emailed you both. Best to take this off the forum, I think.
BTW, Michael - my best-guess for those three words… "You f**cking cheat"…?

We could run some GoPros on our bars and analyse the race footage.

Next week during the commissaires briefing, just add at the end "and no taking a lap out in the bushes - we all know who you are"..

Mike in the NP is "known to the Police" and creates a fair degree of mirth amongst the officials. He has been withdrawing gracefully from the race in its closing stages and keeping out of trouble at the back of his group.
On that basis, I have no gripes, but perhaps to defuse things we can invite him to take his 'breather' laps at the start-finish line whilst socialising with the commissaires. We would offer him a cup of tea, except the we haven't any ourselves.

I swear in the E12 race I saw that guy get dropped and then miraculously appear in front of me a lap or so later, without riding past me. That explains it then. Cheeky sod, will definitely be watching out for him next time.

How about giving him dispensation to ride the 3/4s, assuming he'd behave (if indeed he ever had to) and not contend anything.
...pointing the figure at my mobile device for any typos.

I think we need some good racing advice. A bit like Alan Strang's top tip to me at the HH spring Omnium.
Me: Hi you must be Alan. Alan: Err! Yeh. Me: I'm Mark, This is my first Track race. Alan. Good Luck !! As he cycled off......
Thanks for that!!!
