Happy New Year to all our readers….
Several results to report - primarily hats off to any idiot, young and old (including myself) who faced the biting wind and driving rain last Sunday’s Cross at Gravesend, proper nasty weather.
Anyway enough idiots did turn up, Max beat all Youth B idiots , Titouan and Ed came in 2nd and 3rd in the Youth A. Joe Blackmore deserves credit - 2nd in Youth B as does Luke for another decent result.
Saturday 9th January Youth and Junior Road rides
NOTE NEW START TIME FOR ALL RIDES - 9.30 at the Velodrome
We’ll be leading 2 separate road rides this weekend, Mark will be leading a youth ride (12 to 14 years) and Dave and I will be leading the juniors on a slightly longer route.
So meet at the velodrome at 9.30 and both rides will finish with chips and coffee at Cafe Paradou on Crystal Palace Parade at about 1 pm.
Please bear in mind that it is now the middle of winter and it may be cold and possibly even wet this weekend - please wear suitable clothing and do an extra check on your bike, I don’t really want to be hanging around in the cold while you try and readjust your brakes with frozen malfuncting hands.
These rides will be on the road so normal pack drill:
Helmets must be worn
BC HHYCC and/or DP Membership required
Bring spare inner tubes that fit your bike
Wear suitable clothing for the weather
Money for emergency buns
Food and water
The name and telephone number of an adult who can rescue you on a PIECE OF PAPER in your back pocket.
Parents and Guardians should be contactable during the ride and able to collect their charge should the need arise.
Wednesday 13th 7pm - Chain Gang/Cross training at the Velodrome.
The weekly Dulwich Chain Gang continues, this week you have the option of joining the gang on led by Paul Mills or the Cross/MTB gang on the mud. Both start at the velodrome 7pm till 9 pm.
Thursday evening BC Cluster sessions
These sessions run by BC continue and are suitable for all youth A and B riders and come highly recommended if you want to race this year. Meet at the velodrome at 7.15 for a 7.30 start. Remember to bring a completed parental consent form (download from the youth section on the Dulwich Forum) and the £3 levy.
London Cross League
Round 13 due to be held on the 13th Jan has been cancelled due to wet weather, which is a damn shame cos Wilmington’s was normally one of the better courses in the series.
This means that the next Cross race is Rd 14 at Hog Hill on the 24th January which Dulwich are promoting. We will be running a ride up to Hog Hill on Saturday 23rd in time for you to try the course once it has been marked out. This ride will be timed to arrive at Hog Hill around 12 o’clock, please keep this date.
Saturday training sessions for the Spring
It’s our intention to continue running a separate Youth and Junior ride every Saturday morning and we will continue the pattern of alternate week road and off road.
Our aim is to prepare you for the start of the Palace Road crit series in May, Juniors the Harry Must TT series and for the MTB Mud fans the newly extended Mud Sweat Gears series along with the usual favorites of the Gorricks and Beastway series.
Thus you’ll find the road rides gradually becoming longer and faster with a few ‘skills’ and ‘tactical’ sessions thrown and the alternate weekly off road ride will gradually become more MTB based.
Additionally we’re planning a few special MTB training days at Hadleigh Farm in Essex and a weekend away on the MTB trails in Afan South Wales - more detail on these trip later on..
