After his latest op at St Thomas’s, Javier Rodriguez was moved to more comfortable surroundings at the London Bridge Hospital. Although he had a bigger TV in his new room, the view out of the window wasn’t quite as scenic. But as he had just moved he had to be ‘checked out for any contagious infection’ he might have brought with him. Personally I wondered if this was actually a bit of a wind up by the nurses. In turn, Jeremy Pearce, then myself and finally bendegroot knocked on his door last Friday, early evening, wearing, over our normal clothes, a pair of bright blue rubber gloves and a thin white plastic apron tied precariously at our backs. Imagine Castelli sizing in operation but nothing bigger than rather a snug ‘L’ fit. I missed Javi’s initial reaction to Jerry’s entrance, his being unaware of the purpose of the nurses’ instructions, but by Ben’s he certainly saw the funny side, which at least helped cheer him up. He’s due home shortly so we will plan another visit (perhaps by bike over Blackheath-way) soon. And the anti-infection get up has since been recycled as part of my puncture repair outfit :-)
