Hi all, lydiadrabkinreiter and I will be spending 11 days in Kyoto in September with our bikes, hoping to explore the surrounding hills on two wheels. Due to a change in the local regulations around AirBnB our pre-booked accommodation has been cancelled and I am having to search again for somewhere that will be happy to house us and our bikes. Does anyone have any tips for bike-friendly accommodation in the city (hotels/holiday lets), preferably close to central Kyoto station or at least close to a train/subway station in the city? Ideally we wouldn't want to pay too much more than £600 for 11 days, which is what the cancelled AirBnB would have cost us. Thank you very much in advance! Will bring back an edible Japanese souvenir for any one who can recommend the perfect place to stay!

I’ve been to Japan with my bike and stayed in mixture of hotels and AirBnB without problems.
I can’t recommend anywhere specific in Kyoto but the absolute key thing in Japan for a bike is to get a non padded bag that encases the whole bike with the front wheel off and strapped to the frame. Search for Tioga bag. Once you do this you can take your bike on buses/tube/trains and will have no problem taking it into your room as luggage. I’m not sure what the new AirBnB rules are but I hope this helps?
