Passing this on with no more knowledge or personal involvement: The latest round of research that the healthy ageing group at King’s College are about to start work on involves in-depth analysis of the physiology of cyclists and will provide participants with a thorough MOT of your physiological status (including VO2 max test and DEXA scan). For cyclists that haven’t had the experience of being able to closely understand their physiology in a lab setting, taking part in this study will give them the opportunity. The study calls for younger (18-35) and older (60+) men and women cyclists. We expect male volunteers to provide evidence of cycling 100km in 6.5 hours or less and females to provide evidence of cycling 60 km in 6 hours or less on a fairly regular basis. While they would expect the older group also to cycle 100 km in 6.5 hours, allowances for lesser distances will be considered and anybody over the age of 80 able to complete a 60 km ride. Volunteers should be healthy and not be taking any prescribed medication and would be required to visit their labs in London on three occasions (expenses covered). Anybody that would like to find out more about the study and receive a copy of the participant information sheet can email healthy-ageing@kcl.ac.uk.
