How do I get the rubber pads out of the holders? Anyone?

That's easy, just wait till you have to put the new ones in.

If they are Shimano Dura Ace, Ultegra or 105 - there's a small grub screw on the back that has to be undone then the block should slide out

If they're Campag you may need to resort to pliers and maybe a bit of washing up liquid. But don't get the washing up liquid on the plier handles or you'll end up on the other side of the garden.

Hairspray has proven to be a fabulous lubricant as well....

Thanks for your bodgetastic solutions chaps. Mark - your doorframe technique was a partial success. Actually a flat bladed screwdriver driven under the pad from the open end (Campag) did the trick, with the necessary strength provided by a bowlful of fried potatoes.

Pry out with a small screwdriver - stick under the block at the open end and lever out. Use GT85 as a lubricant before sliding the new one in.
