He’s only gone and done it again, that Titouan chap, 3rd in the junior race at Hadleigh Farm on Sunday on another typically Olympian course, decent hills and lots of rocky bits….another good result, well done.
Loads of new stuff starting this week, we’re covering, road, time trial and cyclocross, so at last something for everyone. Please read the details of the mid week training sessions carefully.
Saturday 3rd – Road Ride
We’ll be leading a road ride on Saturday, broadly following the Dulwich Route with an excursion or two in the Shoreham area.
Meet at the velodrome at 8.50 the ride will be back at Cafe Paradou approx 12.30.
This ride will be on roads, so normal rules and pack drill:
Helmets must be worn
BC HHYCC and/or DP Membership required
Bring spare inner tubes
Wear suitable clothing for the weather
Money for emergency buns
Food and water
and if it’s your first ride with us a signed parental consent form.
Saturday 3rd Afternoon - Course setting at Herne Hill
I’ll be leading a practical session on the gentle art of course building progressing to advanced staking and taping before finally leading on to fully testing your work. Those racing on Sunday will find this blatant favouritism useful and are encouraged to attend.
Cyclo Cross London League Rd 4 - Sunday 4th Herne Hill
I am absolutely certain that this will be the second best race in the entire series, the best of course is the Dulwich race in late January. Olly has designed an exceptional course, the weather will be glorious sunshine and HHYCC caterers are fully prepared with loads of healthy burgers and barbecued treats.
I’m hoping to have a couple of BC bikes available for those without - I’ll know if I can get them today or tomorrow.
Winter Mid Week Training Sessions start this week.
Wednesday Evenings - Dulwich Paragon Chain Gangs on the track - these sessions are suitable for strong youth riders, Juniors and Espoires, and will be coached/lead by myself, Steve Sorba and Paul Mills. Start at 7 pm and you’ll be through by 9pm. These sessions are open only to DP and HHYCC members and are free.
Thursday evenings: Run by Jason Catemole aided by other coaches from various clubs, open to youth Under 14, Under 16 and Junior riders. (ie born between 1998 and 2003) Run as series these sessions will build on speed and complexity as the season progresses, so regular attendance is very important. Sign on opens at 7 pm, ensure you’re signed on by 7.15, you’ll be finished by 9 pm. There is a £3 levy for each session. Please bring along a signed parental consent form. These sessions will start at 7 pm and run through to 9, there will be a nominal fee per session.
Saturday 10th October - Dulwich Hill Climb - Somewhere in Kent
Some of you enjoyed the ‘fun’ climb in the summer - I must admit in my book it’s difficult to relate hill climb and fun, but next week is the ‘serious’ one. Details to follow, but essentially all you need to know is that you have to ride up a hill as fast as you can. The hill will no doubt be one of your fav ones up the North Downs escarpment and the challenge will be incorporated into next week’s Saturday ride. Needless to say, as this is the ‘serious’ one, it’s a road bike only challenge.
New Saturday rides for Riders aged 12 to 14 years
From early October, Geoff Nutter and Mark Hindley will be leading regular weekly rides for members who do not have the speed and stamina of the older Junior and Espoire riders. It’s proposed that these rides will leave the velodrome at 9 am and will be back at Cafe Paradou around 12.30.
The first of these rides is scheduled for the 24th October, those without road bikes can borrow one of the brand new ones the club has, please come to the 11 o’clock session on the 17th October and get yourself fitted up with a bike by HHYCC Shed Crew.
