Delighted to introduce the Weekly Drivel’s first reporter - Joe Clifford has volunteered to trawl the net seeking out and reporting on your triumphs, which at the very least will mean a paragraph will be free from my usual typos and grammatical howlers.
Hog With Just The Hill – 16/04/2016
On Saturday Joseph and Patrick ventured over to Hog Hill for ‘Hog without the Hill’, here’s Joseph’s take on the race:
When I and Patrick arrived at Hog Hill we were both surprised to see riders racing around the top of the course. It turned out that the bottom of the circuit had flooded, meaning ‘Hog without the Hill’ had turned into ‘Hog with just the Hill’ and this was to prove to be a very tough circuit.
The race started at a hard pace. Gaps started appearing immediately on the first ascent of the climb, and up through the alpine hairpins the field was strung out completely. Despite it being his first race Patrick managed to hang onto the thinning leading group until the 3rd lap before becoming one of the last riders to drop off.
I managed to stay in the leading group which was down to 7 riders by 10 minutes and it stayed like this for the majority of the race. However with 3 laps left a crash in the lead group split it, unfortunately I was caught in the back end of the split, leaving me to battle for 4th to 6th. I was on my limit by this point and cracked on the final climb, crawling home to a 6th place finish. However this delightfully proved to give me 4 points, enough finally to move me up to 3rd cat. Patrick finished somewhere in the 20’s and was probably the first junior also, not bad for a first race and on a course that we both thought was ‘heart attack inducing’.

A fine result for the pair of them, and don’t gloss over Elliot’s furious ride and great result in the 3rds. Meanwhile Titouan ripped the legs off Geraint Thomas at the HHYCC AGM - it’s true, check the DP forum.
