We've had reporters out everywhere this week:
DULWICH STORM THE HOGGENGBERG AGAIN - shock horror- special report from Dave Rees
Last Saturday saw the Dulwich Espoirs decamp to Hog Hill for the ECCA Youth Races. Max, Luke, Eddie and Titouan lined up in the U16s race against a strong field of worryingly fast looking youths. The early pace was quite fast and soon Luke and Max were tailed off, thanks in no small part to some dubious riding in the pack resulting in them both coming to a standstill on the climb. Eddie and Titouan managed to avoid the carnage and stayed in the bunch for the majority of the race. Titouan would go on to fight for about 12th in the bunch sprint whilst Eddie was about 20th after putting in some big turns in the closing stages trying to setup Titouan for a late attack. Despite the strong field there were some strong performances from the Espoirs and all should be proud of how they rode, especially considering how little racing they've done of late.
In the 4th Cat race, Will and Pat rode a couple of storming races and nearly got on the podium. Will attacked early on with two others from Southend. After about half distance the two Southend riders managed to jump Will and he was soon on his own with no choice but to try and time-trial to the finish and a possible third place. Pat meanwhile had managed to get into a break with someone from Chelmer CC and they were easily pulling away from the rest and also starting to close in on Will. The final lap saw the tow from Southend sprint for the win before we had a three-way battle for third between Will who was fading fast on the climb, the guy from Chelmer and Pat. As they neared the line Will looked to have just enough to make it but the Chelmer CC rider was just able to get him with a couple of metres to go. Will took fourth, Pat fifth. Well done to both of you.
We also had Joe Blackmore racing in the U14s. In a packed field Joe was looking strong throughout and kept himself nicely tucked away in the early stages, saving his legs for the latter part of the race. In the closing stages numerous attacks were launched but he held his own and finished with the bunch.
Special mention must go to Joel Brassington who'd only turned up to support Will in his race but was roped into racing too and put in a great performance to take 6th place overall in the 4th cats!
And from Crystal Palace our reporter Ed writes in a more concise yet refreshingly honest form:
Titouan was either 2nd or 3rd at palace (photo finish) and I was 4th. We made a bit of a hash of the tactics between us. I think we need to sort out a rough plan of action. We both seemed strong but just didn’t quite manage to finish it off.
A report masking a very good result for Ed whilst giving me some ideas for future sessions. I hear Pat done well in the 3/4 ‘s. Interesting to note these were the best results for the entire club on evening.......
Bravo the lot of you - I’m especially pleased to hear on the grape vine that you all thoroughly enjoyed yourselves on Saturday and Tuesday.
Saturday 7th May - Youth MTB and Juniors Time Trials

Meet on MTB’s at the velodrome before 9.30 - if you wish to borrow a club bike - please arrive earlier.
Juniors - Time Trial at Bletchingly

We will be riding out to join the first of the Dulwich Paragon Harry Must Time Trials run on the Bletchingly circuit. Translation from Cyclospeak to English is - gentle ride for 18 miles, hard ride for 10 miles, gentle ride home discussing how brilliantly we rode followed by chips and coffee at Cafe Paradou.
Being a time trial there are loads of rules - most relevant are to turn up on time with a signed TT Parents consent form. To that end - we will all (me included) meet at the velodrome at 8.45 am and leave by 9 sharp. If you’re running late - please text me and meet us en route, we will be riding the normal route - Palace, Annerly, Elmers Emd, West Wickham, Lathams….
