Serge reports on the 1st of the Harry Must Time Trial:
Our Juniors took centre stage today by turning up in numbers and displaying wonderful guts and tenacity on this very rolling and not-so-flat course. Titouan won, going under 30′ and finishing 5th overall. The rest were seen challenging their mentor, with a clear target to beat Charlie’s time. Few of them achieved this so bravo to them! Some really emotional scenes of students becoming the master were on display by the roadside.
Hey - so you can trounce an old man, so you damn well ought to , Dave’s the target this week so no pressure. Anyway I’ll the next bit of his report - cos it’s complimentary
Our Super, extra Vet award goes to Charlie, and hat tip not only for his winning time (yes) but also for leading a group to this event and by doing so significantly lowering the average age of our testers community. We have seen the future today and future looks bright!
Some muddy results somehow have slipped through the net - both Ed and Titouan are racing the Southern XC series with vigour - both achieved top 10 (10th and 5th respectively) places in Rd 3 at Aldermaston.
Good riding from the lot of you on Saturday….proud of yer
Saturday 14th May - Youth MTB and Juniors Time Trials
Pretty much the same routine as last week - Ice Creams for the youth and a challenging TT for the Juniors.
Youth Ride - Mark will be leading a Off road Youth ride exploring alternative routes to the Ice Cream Van on Keston Common.
Meet on MTB’s at the velodrome before 9.30 - if you wish to borrow a club bike - please arrive earlier.
Juniors - Time Trial at Bletchingly
If you haven’t handed one in yet and you are under 18 you’ll need A SIGNED TT PARENT CONSENT FORM
We will be riding out to join next of Dulwich Paragon Harry Must Time Trials run on the Bletchingly circuit. It will be interesting to compare your time this week with those from last week.
Being a time trial there are loads of rules - most relevant are to turn up on time with a signed TT Parents consent form. To that end - we will all (me included) meet at the velodrome at 8.45 am and leave by 9 sharp. If you’re running late - please text me and meet us en route, we will be riding the normal route - Palace, Annerly, Elmers End, West Wickham, Layhams….
As full a set of details as necessary are on the Dulwich Forum - dulwichparagon.proboards.com/thread/9750/harry-club-tt-events-2016
Time Trial (TT) Parent Consent form (WHICH YOU WILL NEED) is also on the forum :
dulwichparagon.proboards.com/thread/8783/parents-consent-forms
Entry to the TT is free for all Youths and Juniors who are members of either Dulwich or Herne Hill Youth. (yet another staggering bargain for a membership fee of £10) Non Club members I think £3 will cover.
Note: Aero bars are not to be fitted or used on the ride out to Bletchingly. If you’re fortunate enough to have a pointy helmet and a TT bike you’re very lucky and had better be pretty fast, standard road bikes and kit are absolutely OK.
Did I mention the TT Parents consent form?
Rides and Time trials will be on the road or part on road so normal pack drill:
Helmets must be worn
BC HHYCC and/or DP Membership required
Bring spare inner tubes that fit your bike
Wear suitable clothing for the weather
Money for emergency buns
Food and water
The name and telephone number of an adult who can rescue you on a PIECE OF PAPER in your back pocket.
Parents and Guardians - please the contactable and available to rescue your charge should the need arise.
Other Racing next week - loads of it
Tuesday 17th May Crystal Palace Crits
Rd4 - I hope the weather will be kinder this week. It is important for Juniors and Seniors to note that entry in advance is strongly advised - however if the race is full turn up at sign on promptly at 6 pm, be nice and help that nice Mr Joss Buckley, you MAY get a place.
Youths are excused pre entering - turn up on evening with some money.
