Hi all, I'm after some advice on a coast to coast trip. I've been looking at the Whitehaven to Tyneside route but apparently this isn't entirely suitable for road bikes. Can anyone recommend a 3 day road route please? Thanks very much, Becky

If it's the route I did - it's entirely rideable on a road bike (wider tyres are advisable though, i.e 28mm plus) - even in the pouring rain..
There's a few gravel sections on some of the rail trail sections, but it's hardly XC singletrack!
I'll see if I can dig up the route for you.

How about the Way of the Roses, between Bridlington (well, we actually started from Scarborough) and Morecambe? wayoftheroses.info/Nigel and I rode this last year on loaded touring bikes. It's very well marked, completely on-road, and stunningly beautiful. It's quite hilly up across the moors, we did in in two days with an average elevation gain of 1300m/day (it felt hard on bikes weighing 20+kg). Three days would be much more sensible if loaded. Let me know if you'd like to see the pics. - Michael
