I was planning to cycle to this tomorrow to help out. Have any of you other volunteers helped at the games before and if you have do you know if it is safe to leave bikes lying around and/or where do you usually lock your bike up?
Yours neurotically...

Is bob organising it at Crystal palace again? If so, there's a signing on desk in the middle where bikes can be left. Although you'll probably want to lock it to something immoveable if you're away marshalling a corner (or bring it with you...) When are you going down?

Cheers for that, Sean. Yup, Crystal Palace again. I think volunteers have to be there for 9 at the latest.
I am the one saying 5-4-3-2-1. Very exciting. Perhaps I should pull some fancy Ted-Rogers-style finger work.

Watch out for the parents. They can be quite aggressive especially when their little Jimmy doesn't win.
See you tomorrow

Boy, you can say that again. I've never before come across such a mean-minded group of competitors when they found out they's lost, fairly and squarely, in full accordance with the rules.

I think you did a splendid job, Bob. Don't listen to them. Maybe next year you should take a less lary t-shirt to slip into at the end once the results are in. Perhaps a spot of camo so you can blend in with the foliage as soon as trouble approaches.
Anyone who moans should be automatically obliged to organise the whole thing next year and see how they get on.

I'd like to thank everyone who helped, for doing such a great job. My teams may have been a little high-maintenance, in that they kept falling off or forgetting to go through the timing gate so that they needed re-runs, but this was all handled efficiently, promptly and without fuss, so that all of my competitors went home feeling they'd had a good and fair event. For several of them this was their first time on a road bike, in a competition where the standard of competitors seems to rise every year. Thank you all!
