SATURDAY 8TH JULY
Off-road this week. Seeing as it's just a couple of weeks to the beginning of the Summer Cross series (see below) we'll head off-road for Saturday's ride. Ideally bring your cross bikes for this one as we'll try and build in as much cross-related terrain as possible.
Meet at the velodrome at 9am, aiming to be back to the Paradou circa 1pm for the usual post-ride refreshments.
The ride will be partly on the road so normal pack drill required:
BC and HHYCC or DP membership required (unless this is your first ride)
Helmets must be worn
Spare inner tubes
A full water bottle and food
Money for tea, cake and chips
Number of your parent/guardian/rescuer/responsible adult on a piece of paper.
If it’s your first ride - a signed Parental Consent form.
Note – you should be able carry all the above on your bike or in your jersey pockets. Rucksacks, tents, gazebos, packed lunches, picnics, survival kits, kitchen sinks etc won't be necessary.
4TH ANNUAL DULWICH FOOTPATH HILLCLIMB & SOCIAL – SATURDAY JULY 22rd 2pm
ONE NOT TO MISS! – A great event, lots of fun and only round the corner from the village. You're all (DP and HHYCC) encouraged to enter (see the RiderHQ link below).
There's a dedicated Youth/Junior category or you can always go for one of more serious categories such as Silliest Costume or Wackiest Bike!
PLEASE NOTE: All U18s must present a fully filled in CTT Parent's Consent form on the day to participate. This is NOT the same as the one for HHYCC / DP Rides! – download the CTT form HERE
Starting opposite Sydenham Hill BR on College Road, it's a 0.5km ramp that kicks up to 18%. But at least it's short, well-surfaced and traffic-free – plus the finish is handily placed for the Dulwich Wood House pub. Afterwards, we'll retire to the pub garden for recovery fluids and the prize giving.
Friends, guests and family are welcome to come along and cheer, and join the party in the pub garden afterwards. As in previous years it's a fun, social event with a little brief pain on the side.
There are prizes to be won!
Full details of categories (serious and not-so-serious) and prizes on the forum soon, but for now, get signed up. And please remember if you volunteer to help for this event, you can compete, too.
Entry fee is a modest £5 to cover CTT levies & insurance (and entitles you to enter as many categories as you like) and as in the past any extra will go to Athol House, Leonard Cheshire home on College Road
Sign-up here NOW!
Last year's PRIZE-WINNING categories were:
Fastest Junior (U-18)
Fastest Man
Fastest Woman
Fastest Vet (40+)
Fastest Super-Vet (50+)
Fastest Super-Duper-Vet (60+)
PLUS
Wackiest / Stupidest Bike
Best Silly Costume
Faster Folder
Fastest Fixie
Lanterne Rouge (male & female)
Doomed Heroism Award
SUMMER CYCLOCROSS
For those of you who simply can't bare the withdrawal symptoms anymore you'll be pleased to know the Summer Cross series is almost upon us. We'll aim to do a couple of offroad rides in the coming weeks to help you all get back up to speed in readiness.
If you're planning on racing, now's the time to wash off that mud from the Team Champs, pump up the tyres (just a tad! - it is cross after all!) and generally start fettling your steads, making sure they're back in perfect working order. We'd certainly recommend that you get your local bike shop to give your bike the once over so you know it's all sorted. If you're unsure of where to take your bike to get it checked, Charlie or I can always help point you in the right direction.
Dates for the Summer Series are;
Rd 1: Jubilee Park, 20th July
Rd 2: Frylands, 27th July
Rd 3: Beckenham Place Park, 3rd August
Rd 4: Herne Hill, 10th August
