Hi, This has come through from a contact. If interested, please contact Nicky directly on her email as provided below. Mention my name (Emma Pickering) in the email so that she knows where the contact has come from. Emma ---
"My research interests and publications are on aspects of Sports Endocrinology and bone health. I have a contact/collaborator who is Consultant Radiologist in charge of high tech DEXA scan for assessing body composition located in Luton. They have scanned many professional sports team, including cycling teams, including team Sky.
They are looking to scan high level amateur cyclists and asked for my help given my research background with athletes. Very low radiation (compared to Xray for example), takes about 20/30 minutes lying still as scanner (about size of large suitcase) passes over you. The DEXA scan would give results of body composition (bone, fat and lean) and would be able to highlight any asymmetries.
The plan is to run pilot study of about 30 riders. All second cat or above. To include men and women of all ages. The scan itself takes only 8 minutes and would be conducted at their centre in Luton 6-10am on a weekend.
At the moment I am collating list of those interested. Full, further details regarding protocol/consent form etc will be sent in due course.
