The traditional road season closing weekend double header
On Saturday, test your power-to-weight in the club hill climb championships: 10:15 sign on.
This year the course is up White Lane - its steeper than last years Star Hill but you will have more "fun" as its short and sharp. There will hopefully be less (no) traffic, and there are some excellent viewing points on the course to watch your club mates suffer. It’s been used annually for years as the Bec CC hill climb which is amongst the best known hill climbs in the country and is handily located close to the top end of Beddlestead and timed for an easy ride out on the normal Saturday route. (Best bring a jacket if you’re hanging around)
Obli Strava. Distance is 700 yards (640 metres in new money) with an average gradient of 13% and a max of 20%
A few details to note:
• No pre-entry required, this event is free for club members and second claim members (guest riders are welcome but they will have to pay £2 each - they must also be members of a club affiliated to CTT)
• Sign-on will be at the top of White Lane - beware of traffic as this is not a closed road and some drivers do use it as a rat run to Titsey Hill
• First rider off (no. 1) at 10:45, then a rider off every minute. So make sure you've enough time to sign on and get to the start, please arrive by 10.15
Spectators are welcome (even encouraged) but please be careful of the finish area and avoid congregating; this will not be a closed-road event.
There will be prizes for the usual category winners- fastest Male, Female, junior, Vet etc (Juniors please bring a signed consent form)

The record:
Extensive trawling of the forum says Matt Pilkington went sub 2 minutes (1:59 in 2010)
On Sunday, relax, let gravity take the strain and see how far you can freewheel in the downhill championship: 11am start
As per previous years, we will be wheeling down Tilburstow Hill towards Godstone. the max gradient is about 7% and despite what Google says there is enough uphill at the approach to Godstone to bring most people to a stop before the junction. There will be a gently paced ride out leaving from Crystal Palace. It's about 30km in a direct-ish route aiming to arrive at 10:45 where we will meet at the junction with Rabies Heath Road.
Open to all club members and second claims with only a few rules
• All upright bikes aside from TT bikes and fixies are permitted. (So bring your best road bike, your tourer, your mtb or your shopper. - I’ve not seen anyone try it on a Brompton yet, but don’t let that stop you, set an inaugural record if you want)
• No disc/tri-spoked wheels, tri-bars, clip-on bars or similar and no TT helmets will be permitted.
• Skinsuits and 'Road Aero' helmets are permitted
• All bikes (including wheels) must be ridden to the start.
• One run allowed, furthest distance travelled from the start line wins.
• No pedaling is allowed – cranks will be 'locked' as a prevention. No hopping or jolting the bike at the finish.
• Feet must remain on pedals at all times - No 'Superwoman/Superman' positions by order of the UCI
• Have fun and stay safe
