It's a must. Will have to rousle up a track bike of sufficient dimensions, though...

I think I'll come along - it's been ages since I was last on the track.
Graeme that picture's ace and I might have to steal it for my avatar as it has an even bigger gear to the one I have now!

I'm planning on coming to this on Saturday. Would anyone object if my girlfriend came along? She has ridden at Herne Hill once before (which is the same number of times that I have ridden on the track) and has been on several rides with Dulwich. She is just a bit on the lazy side and I find it difficult to get her up in time to go out on Saturday rides. I can't be the only one who has this problem...

I'm sure that will be fine Peter.
A note to everyone that is going to use a loan a bike:
REMEMBER TO BRING ALONG YOUR OWN SHOES AND PEDALS !

Hi Bob
Can I bring a non-club member? One I am trying to recruit into the club?
Also do we have to hire bikes? Can we use road bikes as the track bikes they have all a little small?
Thanks,
Andy

Road bikes are not normally allowed on the track except on certain evenings for specific training. You can't have them on at the same time as track bikes as the mixture would be highly combustible. There's also no point as then it really would be 'just riding round in circles' rather than learning a new discipline. I should be able to bring two track bikes with me one of which is a club bike that used to fit Bob. If you want to call him small, go ahead. Also just to note that if you don't want to ride clipless the hire bikes do have pedals and straps so you can just wear trainers and tie yourself on. The weather forecast looks good this should be a great day out!

I think you must be the only one with this problem. Speaking for myself, Mrs CycleMonkey is always up at the crack of dawn and normally does an Iron Man Triathlon before ripping my legs off on the Saturday Morning Ride. Even as I type, I can hear Mrs CycleMonkey giving some serious stick to the turbo-trainer in preparation for the track meet tomorrow. Can I bring a non-club member? One I am trying to recruit into the club? Unless Bob says categorically NO, I would guess that you can both bring along non-club members. Especially those wanting to join the club.

Steve - I am only asking about the road bike thing because they only have one tall persons bike at Herne Hill and it is too short! With me, Andy and now my friend Mike (who is six six) - we'll be short a bike or two!
I agree with you about the point about learning a new discipline learning but even on a road bike I find my pedalling style changes when I am on a track.

Excellent day out Bob. And I didn't even take to the track. And many thanks to the VCL members for the coaching session.
