[Posted on behalf of Mark Baker]: Hi Just a short note to tell you about a new annual bike challenge that some of your members may be interested in! The London2Bournemouth Cycle starts in Wimbledon, London and finishes at the Bournemouth seafront 115 miles later (184km). The road course goes through the north and south downs and the new forest. It can be treated as a time-trial or a challenge. There is free food and drink at the start/finish as well as at the 3 feed-stations en route. Medals and freebies to all finishers. The event is taking place on Sunday 12th July 2009 7.30am start. Entries limited to 500. Entry is already open! Triathletes may also be interested as it is almost the same length as the full distance (ironman) triathlon of 112miles We hope this will become a firm favourite on the cyclists event calendar! Thanks very much for your time All details at: www.london2bournemouth.co.ukAll the best Mark Baker (race organiser) 07837 975149 info@london2bournemouth.co.uk

"The entry fee is £79.00 per person. Included in the entry price amongst other things are food at the start, food and drink at feed stations and at the finish in Bournemouth; finishers medals and some freebies."
Caviar energy bars and bottles of Dom Perignon presumably.

You could do a 5 day stage race for that money.

I think the Ironman reference gives a clue, as triathlon events seem to carry a hefty price tag compared to road racing. Maybe that's the area the organsers come from -- or maybe their ideal entrants are affluent triathletes living on the Richmond-Kingston-Twickenham side of town for whom 80 odd quid for a 6 hour bike ride is peanuts.

They need a seriious reality check! Even the so called British Sportive London to Cantebury last year wasn't THAT expensive! Certainly no other sportive in the UK and not even La Marmotte - Get real!

What's going to be served at the feed stations? ...Beluga, Ossetra, and Sevruga caviar energy gels washed down with bidons of Perrier Jouet's Belle Epoque Champagne maybe?!

Better get our next set of club kit made in Tux style rather than the usual figure hugging lycra... Not quite sure how caviar and Champagne fits into the usual race diet but am quite willing to give it a go as long as it gets the ok from ASO/UCI
