Last night I got my bike Stolen from outside the three kings pub off Clerkenwell Green.
I locked it up with a Abus Plus lock. As I came out to ride home I realised the bike and lock had been stolen.
I’m sure most of you have more than one bike and would never maske the foolish mistake of taking the bike that you use to race, train and weekend rides on to go to the pub on but if you’re a one bike, live by the seats of your pants kinda guy like myself then I strongly recommend you don’t follow my example and don’t take out your bike especially if you’re going to what some people are now calling the Bagdad of EC1.
If anyone does happen to see on their travels a blue and yellow bianchi road bike with a campag compact chainset and cadence censer, ask them what they think of the handling, I always thought it was al little loose especially on the decent? The chainset is only a few months old, and there’s a new front and back derailleur on it as well as a fairly new chain. They may need to replace the headset soon as some of the parts are getting a bit rusty, apart from that it should serve them well.

Mate I am totally gutted for you. I had mine stolen just round the corner from Clerkenwell at Farringdon a couple months back. Its soul destroying. Was it insured? If so report it quick to the police.
I have a spare frame but the rear was bent when I craashed a while back so its not the safest it has to be said but if you want to borrow that one you're welcome to.

Dan, that's really bad news - sorry to hear it.
I do know how you feel, as I have had a few bikes stolen in the past, including back in the days when I thought 1 bike was enough! I hope you're able to get back on the road soon.
I'll keep a look out - it was quite distictive. Also check EBay. And how about a trip down Brick Lane on Sunday morning? I'd say there's a good chance it could appear there...

Dan - so sorry to hear your bike's been nicked. Meantime, can we get you riding again on a loan machine? They may be slightly on the large side, but Sean has left a stable of bikes behind and specifically asked that they were used in times of need.

Thanks guys for the kind offers.
Bob if it is possible to borrow one of Seans trusty steeds that would be wonderful and really help me out. I promise to look after it and only use it for proper rides and certainly not take it to the likes of Clerkenwell or any other place of squalor.
I’ll give you a call tonight maybe and see when’s the most convenient time to pick it up etc...
I’m working out now how much I can afford to spend on a new bike so if anyone knows of any good offers going round then please let me know
Thanks again.

Dan - the sooner the better, as I'm away from Friday afternoon for a few days. Why not even tonight - should be home 9pm from the Weds. chaingang.

New bikes - I like the look of planet x's new carbon frame. Maybe too low-rent for the bike pimps out there, but I'm a happy customer. www.planet-x-bikes.com/road/They also support the 'bike-to-work' scheme where the UK govt pays 50% of the retail price.

As Tom said, get down to Brick Lane market on Sunday morning....early! Have been there before on the lookout for a stolen bike of mine in the past but be warned, some of the guys flogging hooky gear are fairly burly looking...

sorry to hear that Dan
Depending on what happens with the insurance on mine I might have spares for the back end of a bike if I get enough to buy a new bike.
Is the right time of year to be getting offers and unlike myself you are a more standard size to get 06 models.

It's not much help but I know how you feel Dan. I had mine stolen three years ago from Shoreditch back in the days when I too believed in one bike to rule them all. It was locked up with a good U lock and still it only took them 15 minutes to steal it in broad daylight. Luckily it was insured and the brand new replacement was what prompted me to join the Dulwich, so as they say every cloud has a silver lining. Good luck getting something sorted out quickly, we don't want you starting to go off form!

Bad news indeed. Has to be said all around clerkenwell and angel it BAD for knickings. Friend used to live in Exmouth Market, had his bike knicked from his back yard. Lost until we spotted a kid wheelying past his house on it. Quick sprint up the road collected it, but gone again the next week:)
I reckon though, as said earlier. Brick Lane is the way to go for a pick up. Another friend lost his Cannondale in Angel, Saturday night, and picked it up there following morning. He took his receipt along from the original purchase, chucked his leg over, showed the document to the 'pesky thief', and off he rode. Back in safe hands again.
Main thing i suppose is to discourage as many people as possiblle from going there too to pick up hot bikes.
Unbelievable that the police do nothing down there.
Good luck tomorrow
