Ding Day:
Creating a harmony around Londons’ cycling community
London, Wednesday 10th September
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boris Johnson - Mayor of London
“...Ding Day is a welcome addition to spreading the word about the joys of cycling.”
Wednesday 10th September will see London ring out to the sound of the bicycle bell on the first annual Ding Day –
A celebration for the cycling community in London.
On this day London will become a joyful and happier city for cyclists, streets will ring to the sound of the bicycle bell. With every cyclist welcome and openly encouraged to participate, all that’s needed is a bike and a bell. There is no main event on the day, it runs allday whenever you are in the saddle on Ding Day.
The concept is simple:
On Wednesday 10th September whenever you see another cyclist you give a little ‘ding ding’ on your bell, and they will return your greeting with another ‘ding ding’.
The idea behind Ding Day:
To create a fun experience for cyclists and locals in and around London, with the hope of creating more of a sense of community amongst fellow cyclists, including commuters, parents, children, basically any cyclist young or old. It’s free and open to everyone.
It is a celebration of cycling as one of the most environmentally friendly, healthy and almost certainly quickest way of getting aroud our great city.
Notes for editor:
Ding Day will has its own online presence, newsletter and network to sign up to in advance as well as competitions to be won.
We are currently working closely with cycling companies to get them involved and show their support as well as donate prizes. All Londons’ papers, local radio, local TV and websites will all be targeted and asked for their support for this annual celebration of cycling.
