I am writing to remind you about Cycle for Life 2009 with the charity Learning for Life (www.learningforlifeuk.org) - between the great cities of Paris and London. I think it may be of interest to you and members of your cycling group.
Following last years great success, we are running this event again on 17th September 2009, again staying in Paris, the beautiful village of Lyon La Floret, Bognor Regis in the UK and then back to London for a food and drink reception. All food, accommodation and transport will be provided, as well as a back up support team carrying medical supplies and refreshments and ensuring the ride goes smoothly.
Last year, the cyclists had a great fun!
As a charity, we are very cost-effective. Last year, an impressive 96% of all money we spent went to help fund our projects. Since we are organising this event ourselves (as supposed to using a commercial company) all funds you raise over the cost of this event will go to help fund our projects.
I’d be grateful if you could forward this email onto all the members of your cycling group (and anyone else you think would be interested) for their perusal. It would be great, if you could get a whole group together.
Learning for Life’s mission is to overcome poverty by providing South Asia’s poorest and most oppressed with education and basic health. We support teachers and pupils on the streets, in slums and remote villages providing pre-primary education, vocational training and health check ups for children suffering malnutrition and other conditions, integrating the provision of education and basic health facilities.
The need is great. For example, a staggering 20 million people in Bangladesh live on less than 16p a day and more than 70% of children living in slums do not have access to education. In Pakistan, almost one in ten children die before the age of five. For all of these children, simply being born in the wrong place at the wrong time means a life of crippling poverty. Providing education and basic health care –something we take for granted in the UK - is their ticket out. I have included more information about LfL below this email.
To take part in Cycle for Life 2009, we’re asking for a £200 deposit to register, and then you’ll need to raise £900. When you register, you’ll be provided with a fundraising pack by email and automatically set up with a Justgiving page to help you raise the money.
To register, as well as paying your deposit, we’ll need you to fill out a brief application form and medical questionnaire, which needs to be signed and sent back to 2 Rickett Street, London, SW6 1RU or scanned and sent back by email. Full details of the trip, and the forms, can be found at by clicking here This link should work, but if you experience problems opening it, please go to www.learningforlifeuk.org/news-and-events and follow the link in the Cycle for Life section. You can also contact me for further information at clive@learningforlifeuk.org or on 020 7385 8765.
It would be great if you and your friends could take part. You’ll have lots of fun AND make a real difference!
Best wishes,
Clive
