ARE YOU A KEEN AND FREQUENT CYCLIST? WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE PART IN A PIONEERING ‘HUMAN POWER’ EXPERIMENT FOR BBC1?
Dragonfly TV is looking for fit cyclists with their own road racing bikes to take part in a novel experiment which attempts to convert human pedal power into electricity. The event will be filmed for inclusion in an exciting new science documentary to be broadcast on BBC1 this autumn.
The experiment will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 1st August, 2009 at the Herne Hill Velodrome, Burbage Road, London, S.E.24 9.H.E.
Those involved will be asked to pedal in short bursts at a range of speeds to try and produce enough electricity to power a number of common household appliances.
If you’re interested and would like to find out more, please call Emma Hughes on 0207 033 3198 or email her at pedalpower@dragonfly.tv You will be asked to complete a simple medical questionnaire to confirm your fitness to participate.

I'm doing this! It's possible they may need a few volunteers at short notice so if you fancy trying to boil a kettle with the sheer power of your pedalling then drop in from 11.30am. Or just come and encourage me.

Experiment?? What fuss. My Tacx generates power back to the grid never mind a few houshold apps. Think the researchers of this experiment need to research a little harder.
Electronically yours... as The Human League used to say

It's true, Opi - every time Mark hits +120 rpm the top of the CP transmitter lights up...

For those of you to whom I talked about the 'Human Power Experiment' (cyclists powering domestic appliances) and who fancy being part of a telly programme for BBC1 then email me. Apparently the production company are still looking for a few people to pedal on Sunday 6th Sept. It'll be all day - filming in Bedfordshire. No money but you will be bussed to the site, fed and watered all day and bussed back to London at the end. Don't need to bring your bike - just shoes/pedals.
Anyway - if you fancy joining me and about 80 other cyclists drop me a line and I'll pass on the contact for the production company.

And be prepared for a stupidly early start! I'm getting the feeling that it could be a 6.30am departure from central London/Euston/Kings Cross. (Filming days usually run 8am to 7pm with crew and cast called at 7.30am)

This is being broadcast on 6th Dec, so if you are dying to see me and Sarah N pedalling like fury and looking very sweaty in red t-shirts (which, no doubt, all of you are
They have also included some of the footage from the test run at Herne Hill that I and Anna Glowinski (of Ana Nichoola clothing) did back in August.

In relation to this a picture of DP's own Sarah Northall is featured on the homepage of the electricpedals.com website and on the tv preview pages of the Mirror and Mail...
