Hallelujah the summer is nearly over, which means cross is upon us.
This series is ideal for beginners. It's cheap at £6. Mountain bikes are fine and no licence is required.

Not sure I'm as happy as you are about this harbinger of autumn - but I'm tempted to have a go. Are you sure MTBs (or rather an old Trek hybrid) are okay? And is it EOL? Sorry - just read the answer to the last question, durr...

DJB, it will be good to see you there! MTBs/hybrids are fine - I use an MTB with drops. Just remove your mudguards for a racy look and prepare for an hour of fun. I'm sure the Saturday morning CX training ride will start soon. It makes a nice change from the regular Saturday ride: Cycle to Mitcham Common for an hour or so of practising mounts/dismounts/carrying the bike/hopping over logs and general off-road action.

It's been a long summer waiting the proper racing to come around, time to get down and dirty.
It certainly is time to think about getting the Saturday cyclo-cross sessions going again. Once I've moved house at the end of the month I'll be up for doing them every week.

Great idea to reintroduce the x sessions. An opportunity to adjust the skills and tune the whizzer before the off. Also useful for our other successful road racers who might want to extend their season of competition and give it a try. Will miss 1st HH, darn holiday to struggle through.
Wateryouonaboutman- 'Once I get my bikes' sounds as if they are being imported from some exotic Belgian shed. Whoar!

I'm well up for some cross. I've signed up for the tour of the cornfields but don't have a bike. If anyone's selling one I'm 5ft10 with short legs.

I want to come and sample the fun - thinking of putting some suitable rubber on my Pinarello Sestriere (the winter bike) Think it will take up to 35c. Any thoughts on what might be suitable? Don't want to spend a fortune.

It's tomorrow isn't it? Ooh, is it going to rain, isn't it going to rain, will it affect my hairdo? I don't care. No need to phone God either. In fact he'll probably be there - I heard he's a cross fan.
Time to go and see whether my tubs are still stuck to the rims rather than leaving it to the first corner of the first race of the season like normal... when I find out that the answer is 'no'.
Until tomorrow, people.

Yeah, I reckon that god is a cross fan. He'll share his happy clappy fundamentalist zeal with the 'let's off-road (but on a playing field)' masses.
For those exciting, vibrant, colourful, drug-taking characters amongst us who prefer to dwell in the path of satan, there's just 36 weeks before Palace starts again.....
