Contrary to andyc's bad experience I've got a cateye EL610 and have been using it for well over a year to commute with. Not problems to report, still holds a charge well and hasn't fallen off or broken at all. Somehow I doubt that it would be suitable for off-road riding at night.

The reason i have two hope light sets is a bit random. My mum, ever worried about us riding at night, bought Karen and i a set each last year for christmas. The result is that i look like the thing out of close encounters....

My mag's just done a big lights review. I'll have a look and see what did well. A lot of people on mtb forums use some cheap led torches from tescos. Mega bright, cheap and you can just put aa batteries in them. To be honest, mega power isn't always an advantage. The light is coming from such a crap direction - very close to eye level - that you have very little depth perception. Adding more power just makes the contrast greater. I've ridden round the woods in a group before where i've not had lights at all and although not that much fun, it was possible. I'd give it a go with a small light before dropping cash on anything serious.

That would be good cheers Andy, i'll have to come out with you on an evening (holiday from Mon for 10 days so miss next couple) to see if the two lights i own will suffice. Otherwise sounds like a trip to Tesco is due.
